Road Cycling

Can anyone recommend me some books on professional cycling please? Preferably road cycling/le tour. I've read Millard racing through the dark and thought it was great. Don't mind if it's autobiographical, historical charting of grand tours gone by...anything as long as it's road cycling racing related?

The world of cycling according to g is a great lightweight dip in and out.

I'll dig out what I've read tomorrow.

Eddy Merckx: The Cannibal By Daniel Friebe
The Hour by Michael Hutchinson (this is about an attempt at the hour record)

Has he finished tilting his saddle forward yet? Only I reckon that could go a bit further.

Also wtf is going on with that rear mech? Or is it just because he's cross chaining small-small like that?

He hasn't ridden it yet, going to adjust the saddle think he just missed it h! :)

Yup looks funny but it's in ssmall-small front and back hence the weirdness.

What happened to painting the body and rear legs of the zebra?;)

That would take a while to mask ;) hespent like an hour on the fforks alone :o

Worst, timing, ever!:(

Self-diagnosing, but only a week from my half Ironman and I appear to have come down with "coccydynia". This is damage to soft tissue around the coccyx and can be caused by cycling and having low BF. It may be due to RSI from riding in the TT position for extended periods and not being used to it.

At the moment it is painful to walk, sit, lay down and of course ride my bike.:(

I hope it heals in time for Sunday but that might be optimistic.

that is not good news man! hope you get over it quick!

out of interest, you being really into your running, cycling etc.. how's your diet? do you supplement a lot with fish oils etc?

I found that my tendons etc start hurting if I say continue hitting my gym and cycle without any supplements.

my omega 3 dose is 3x the recommended, I usually take stuff to help with joints etc too just because I know that I tire my body way more than your "average" joe.

on a different note, I'm not TOO impressed with shimano 105 5800.

I had my "zombi" bike for a few months now, did a little over 2000 miles and I had cable snaps and now I've got this weird issue where 3rd and 4th cogs just won't shift up/down properly where the rest work fine.

so today I rode my carbon bike to work and even after 5k heavy miles it is still going strong!

it runs the older 10sp sram rival.

I might try to get out for an imperial next weekend. I need to start getting some longer rides in if I'm not going to utterly die on my ride in June.

That's a pretty unusual experience with 5800. I don't have it myself but several friends do and it has been pretty flawless.

Doesn't sound like those problems are inherent to the group set itself but perhaps setup and indexing?

it was very smooth and perfect for the first 1500 miles or so, once the cable snapped inside the shifter it started misbehaving, I'd say hey it's indexing too but I genuinely cannot get it to shift properly.

I have a feeling that someone may have bumped the rear mech while it was at work and bent it hence the sudden go from smooth/easy shifting to complete cack to a point where I decided to not ride it today.

Cheers.

My diet isn't that great really but I've never had problems before. I usually only supplement with A-Z vitamins but last week I bought some Omega 3,6,9 tablets and some magnesium tablets.

I'm just going to hit the ibuprofen hard and have some hot baths. Good thing I'm tapering this week as I doubt I'll be able to do much training in my current state.

Does anyone commute with a backpack to work?

Have only just started to commute, but the current hiking backpack I have to carry work clothes and lunch is causing my back to become quite sweaty on a 4.3 mile commute.
