There was the Hoy 100 sportive last week, bumped into them around Dunham.

So after all the discussion regarding chains last week, I was cleaning my best bike, the one I did my imperial on yesterday and noticed that one of the links was cracked in two places! Think a trip to Evans is in order this afternoon.

It's the wiggle / pennine events four counties ride. 82 or 100 miles. Hundred miler has 4000ft of climbing so not too arduous. Rivington is the only serious climb, though it does come near the end of the route so no joke 80 miles in.

Ventured up Bison Hill towards Whipsnade Zoon this afternoon. Wasn't sure how I'd fare as I also rode yesterday (albiet slowly) with a friend who doesn't get much riding done.

Found it relatively comfortable overall, great views form the top. Still think that Whiteleaf & Kop are more punishing climbs but I haven't ridden them both yet this year so they're due a revisit.

Also happened to achieve 3rd overall on a ***** little segment without even realising/trying :p

I'm up on my miles from last year (909 vs 551) but I probably haven't made the most of every opportunity that I've had to get out for a ride (too many lazy starts to the weekends...) but it isn't until I can't ride for a week that I really regret not getting out whenever I can. It has also hit my imperial prep. Going to try and get one more long ride (70 ish miles) in before the 5th June.

Really need to start making the most of it in between work trips otherwise before I know it it'll be winter again.

I wish I could commute by bike. Only 8.5 miles each way but if I did it every day that would be nearly 3500 miles which is way more than I'll end up doing otherwise.

Unfortunately I have to take my car in every day :(

Do you have to bring it home every day?

I'm at 1800 for the year already. Commuting be mental.

What were you on the same time last year? That sounds like a pretty massive increase :)

As I said on Strava, looks like you'll easily get that next time :)

I noticed you mentioned that it's your first weekend of consecutive riding. Do you mean two days in a row or have you done something ridiculous? :p

I haven't officially been told that I couldn't leave it in the workshop but it becomes a logistical nightmare when I'm doing a mix of office and site based work. When I'm purely office based the downside would be my car becoming the company run around as it is nicer to drive than our gutless shed of a van. Having previously inherited such a run around when I first started working at the company there is no way I want my car ending up like that shed!

It is a bit of pain but TBH commuting by bike is out while in this job. On the plus side for every week that I work overseas I get two days extra time off when I return and those days are dedicated to long rides or days off road with my MTB as I see them as a bit of a bonus.

Ta :)

Just two days on the trot. 30m yesterday and 44m today. Yesterday was an 'easy' ride for me at least.

New shoes & cleats and a slight hamstring niggle from the beginning of the month (cleat shifted) so wasn't sure how it'd all hold up today, sit bones etc too. I guess total time in the saddle & distance isn't any different to what I've done in a single ride previously.

Has he finished tilting his saddle forward yet? Only I reckon that could go a bit further.

Also wtf is going on with that rear mech? Or is it just because he's cross chaining small-small like that?

Is there an easy way to see breakdown of rides as I mark my straight to and from works as commutes. Usually if I add on more than 5miles I'll not mark as a commute.

Putting on this new chain, looks like I don't have to shorten it at all? But then, this is 52x30, atm I'm running a 12-25 casette at the back but I'd like the option of switching and I use that one on the trainer anyway. Could take one link off, then with the quick link that would probably make up the +2. Mainly just to have a spare. What do you guys think?

Also check my shiny new chainring bolts. Key thing being that they're actually there. I've been missing one ever since I've had this bike, as such there's been a tiny bit of wobble under load. Not enough to be a massive issue, but enough to cause some chain rub under load unless you get the front mech position perfect. Going to be so nice to not have to worry about that :D

omg almost came in my pants after that post ride smoothie, what's your favourite mixes?

1 banana
some blueberries
some greek style honey yoghurt
2 scoops sis rego

That's me past 1000 miles this year with no commuting. Pleased with that as this time last year I didn't have 600 on the clock.

Also a good day out today with local club and snagged a 2nd place finish in our strava ride to take the overall lead in the summer league!

Strava ride is social ride with 5/6/7 segments that you go as hard as you can.
