Cheers.

My diet isn't that great really but I've never had problems before. I usually only supplement with A-Z vitamins but last week I bought some Omega 3,6,9 tablets and some magnesium tablets.

I'm just going to hit the ibuprofen hard and have some hot baths. Good thing I'm tapering this week as I doubt I'll be able to do much training in my current state.

I'm going to say that stick with supplements, your body will need that.. especially if you're going low fat! I usually stay at 14-16% so far from low fat.

Does anyone commute with a backpack to work?

Have only just started to commute, but the current hiking backpack I have to carry work clothes and lunch is causing my back to become quite sweaty on a 4.3 mile commute.

I do, I have a DHB backpack and it's pretty good! impossible to avoid sweaty back with a backpack tho.

I used to. It sucked. I use panniers now. Well, I use panniers at least once a week to lug a week's worth of clothes to and from the office. Most of the rest of the week I just use a little rack pack with my lunch and a few other bits and bobs in it.

Anyone know where you can buy a Briko Gass helmet?

Used by Bardiani CSF, think they look cool & are a break from the norm.

150 euro on their website but thought maybe cheaper if they have a UK dealer.

Dragged a friend out for a leisurely ride (for me, not him :D), must say a cheeky half pint mid way went down a treat
Great pic, good choice of beer too! Drunk loads of it when over in Sauze earlier in the year! :D

Went to Swiss Hill, really cool cobbled climb and the Cat and Fiddle, so that's numbers #70 and #71 ticked off the Greatest Cycling Climbs book!
Great ride, well done! Is that book worth getting, heard about it but know nothing more than as the name describes it...
Finished this off today, measured up to be the same as his AR2.

Ugly wheels for that S2 though :(
Any recommendations for a pair of bib shorts for a weight challenged rider(fat git) :D

To be used on rides 6hrs plus in the saddle
If you're looking at 6+ hours rides then you're ideally not looking for shorts (in your current size) for it as if you're doing any serious training before it then you'll trim quite a bit of weight... Best advice would be to look at some quite tight shorts now for 2-3 hours which will get replaced further down the line when your mileage increases and your fitness trims some of the weight so you're looking for the next size down. £50/60 shorts should be more than suitable for this first 'step'. Personally I'd point you towards Castelli and Sportful's ranges. I personally have got on well with Evoluzione and Fiandre NoRain (but you'd want a summer version). If you're after distance/time comfort you're basically buying shorts for the pad in them which tends to be very unique to individuals.
Lots of cyclists out this morning. I got passed by a rider on a TT bike who then crawled up a hill tantalisingly close in front of me at like 12mph while on the middle TT bars, whatever they're called. Seemed a bit odd.
I had a guy do this to me a couple of weeks back, he seemed to put in a huge effort to get past me on the flat, then died completely on a slight incline, I then couldn't pass him due to stationary cars and oncoming traffic.

I do 16 miles each way with rucksack (occasionally laptop on my back) - toughen up! I use a bright yellow alpkit 25L one but have no sweat issues. That's likely me though - I turn red in the face but don't tend to drip too much.

Getting sorted ready for my ~50 mile charity ride. Really can't decide how to dress as it's a pretty cool feeling ~9 degrees here & overcast. Few breezes around and my weather app says a max of 13 degrees after midday. Probably going for roubaix shorts & Sportful R&D Wind jersey due to colour coding (blue today)...
I changed my mind and went for jersey & recent addition: arm sleeves. They're fantastic and I can see me using them loads (as avoids me buying any more long sleeve jerseys)! Just as I was leaving I noticed my rear tyre was a little squishy... Fairly odd as I'd fully cleaned and checked pressures the night before. Pumped a bit of air in and headed down to the shop for the charity ride... As I pull up I can feel something isn't quite right from the rear, sure enough pressure felt low so just as everyones getting ready to leave on the 50 mile ride, I'm going against the flow to get to the shop to change my tube! Great start! :o:rolleyes:

https://www.strava.com/activities/575640534/

Sure enough by the time I'd changed my tube (while having a good chat with some of the staff not riding) everyone had gone. Lauren said there was over 200 people turned up, probably closer to 250 and I was ~20 minutes down on the start group (10am start)... Some winds around but fantastic sunshine & a great day for riding. I put in some fairly fast paced efforts on the familiar roads of out town but was aware to hold back a little as I already had ~60-70 miles in my legs from the week. I started 'ticking off' riders as I went, the first couple no longer than 5-6 miles from town. They must've had a very long day! :o

I quite enjoyed riding solo and passing people, although because I was 15-20 minutes down on most of the club guys I really didn't expect to find anyone of a similar riding ability unless someone punctured (kept that hope alive all ride!). As the day wore on and I was on unknown roads with less people around me I was quite bored I half considered figuring out a shortcut but glancing at my Garmin (and being on unknown roads) meant I just kept going, I'd finished most of my food by 30-ish miles (2 gels left). I realised then I hadn't quite prepared myself and should've carried more than 2 museli bars, 1 bag of haribo and 3 gels... I came a cropper on some gravel on a dodgy back road junction, thankfully at around 5mph, but I did jolt my shoulder/wrist when I came down. I shouted at a guy descending (while I was picking myself up) before he did the same.

A big climb towards Bromyard totally caught me unawares, as I incorrectly thought the climb on the profile was nearer Pencombe, after Bromyard (which I climb from the other side). I paced the couple of climbs afterwards easy towards Pencombe, but I was almost stationary on 1 of them, utterly spent. Semi-bonked and considering going back to Bromyard to find a shop... But had a word with myself once I came to the Pencombe descent as I was back on familiar roads. :D

Once past Bromyard I found a good rhythm and was able to push quite hard back towards town, passing a few clusters of riders I should probably have just eased off and rode with. On the outskirts of town I passed the last few riders on my 'tally' while they were negotiating a junction far too slowly.

Got back to the shop and had a good chat with some of the guys still around I knew, my 'tally' of overtaken riders at 95. A couple of those punctures and one large group of 20 stopped for friends after a climb, but mostly in 2's and 3's. Once I'd noshed a couple of cakes and had a sugary coffee I headed home. A good 57 miles down and 122 for the week.

Wife took QOM this afternoon on zwift. She's already kicking my ass. Christ.
She's obviously doing more training than you? ;)

Well done to her though!

I drip looking at the bike, let alone moving on it. I carry a backpack with clothes, lunch, laptop and all bits in it daily. Unavoidable sweaty back carrying like 15-20kgs on your back mind :p

so boss in work is chucking this out

I'm not sure if I want to even go there, carbon/kevlar with no padding. I think it weighs 115g

Can anyone recommend me some books on professional cycling please? Preferably road cycling/le tour. I've read Millard racing through the dark and thought it was great. Don't mind if it's autobiographical, historical charting of grand tours gone by...anything as long as it's road cycling racing related?
I really enjoyed the Mark Cavendish book someone got me, wasn't a huge fan of his before (don't tend to follow riders who swap teams loads) but after reading the book I really rate him now & prefer him to Wiggo. Have the Froome (The Climb?) book and David Millar 'The Racer' lined up for my holiday next week. Will probably hunt down G's book too as it's been on my shopping list for a while, 9 hour flight means I'll probably polish off most of one on the way over and one back...:cool:
on a different note, I'm not TOO impressed with shimano 105 5800.

I had my "zombi" bike for a few months now, did a little over 2000 miles and I had cable snaps and now I've got this weird issue where 3rd and 4th cogs just won't shift up/down properly where the rest work fine.
Sounds like something damaged/stuck/bent inside the shifter. No problems on mine after ~4500 miles.

Ouch! Hope it clears up quickly for you & that tapering goes well mate! :o

4.4 miles here in all weathers with my Deuter Bike 1 20L. Great bag, but not exactly cheap. I get a sweaty back regardless but it's bearable with the Airstripes which must work!

Going out with a mate after work as weather is best at the start of the week. Legs are ruined but won't be holding back as I've got 9 'rest' days starting saturday! :D:rolleyes::p:o

Ligament damage a few weeks before the cycling trip with Benny_C :(

Must rest up and get another bike fit done (cleats especially).

Well, not exactly a tailwind this evening, but certainly miles better than we've had lately. I averaged just under 16mph on the way home.

Random news from the other day... I'm going to give running a go, so I called in at Decathlon to pick up some cheap gear. I tried on some running shorts and felt incredibly self-conscious in them. Apparently I'm more comfortable in skintight lycra that leaves nothing to the imagination than I am in nice loose baggy running shorts.

I've been doing a few runs the last week or so... Can't wait to get back on the bike! :p

I picked hills to try and keep my pace low and not injure myself but I still much prefer cycling. I got these running shoes in California after a proper gait analysis and being told my feet are strange so they need to order narrower Asics. $120 down and I have ran maybe 30 miles since I bought them 3 years ago.

My legs were killing me when I did a bit of running around Christmas. Not fun. Didn't enjoy it that much, and I was down by the sea with a nice view.

I've been getting out on my bike regular for the last 3 months. A running injury in march made me Xtrained hard, i got back to running for a few weeks then race a decent marathon, since then been out on my bike 4-5 days a week. Mostly 22-27 mile rides, hit a milestone of 31miles Thursday. Progress seems a little slow still, I would still prefer an easy 20mile run than a 30mile cycle for example.

Drivers and weather really putting me off though. So many near misses with idiot drivers.
