Road Cycling

Have got Aerolights on my roval AL35/SL45 wheels (I've disassembled). Certainly didn't have that kinda flex with the low spoke count (20 front, 24 rear).
I'd like to get one with the wrist based heart rate but when I then factor in an additional £40 for a HR strap as well for when I want a more accurate reading and you are looking at £420, that's about what I paid for my bike :o
From what I've heard wrist HRM's are pretty poor - some people they're ok on, others they just don't work and at best give inaccurate readings.

Know what you mean by accessories... £900 bike, £230 Garmin, £60 S&C sensors, £45 HRM, £140 front light, £45 rear light.

I *had* to buy a new bike so all my accessories didn't cost more than what I was riding... ;) :D
I'd go endurace 6.0 for that. 105 all round, comfy ride. Sorted. Available off the shelf now too.
Good call, especially off the shelf. Some mad sales on at the moment -

My VIRB is pretty good for battery life, I get more than a weeks commutes out of a single charge (currently 5*(4*10min)=3.5 hours). I do have 2 batteries though, so usually with a couple of leisure rides thrown in both batteries get charged once a week (alternating them).

That reminds me my 3rd Virb battery has stopped working all of a sudden. Won't charge at all. Evans have stopped selling them too :/

Best battery life I got was just over 5 hours on an imperial ride from two batteries with some life still left.

Bottom two aren't bad specs! The Merida is a carbon frame too, though it doens't show the weight, that's a great spec for the cash.

How long do Rapha normally take to process returns?
I sent the terrible fitting jersey back to them over a week ago and have heard nothing back.

Enjoy the speed :) First thing I would check are the derailleur stops, the rear mech smacking into the spokes is a nasty thing

The Triban 540 from Decathalon with full 105 for £650 but has rim brakes.

Ta, I'm looking forward to trying out road riding, last time I got on a road bike the gear change was on the down tube. :p

Want disc brakes, they're a must.

Well, Halfords just called and guess what - they've opened the box and the bike is damaged. 48 hrs wait for another to get delivered. Wow, I totally didn't see that one coming.

Just watched the ToB go up the Wizard in Alderley, and they were just insanely quick.

Pity I couldn't watch them on the descent into Prestbury a minute after!

Yeah I saw, they used to be the only place which stocked them. I did try an eBay unbranded one. It worked but wouldn't charge in the VIRB and only gave 1-2 hours life. Lost it from my saddlebag one day as used to carry it as an emergency spare. Not missed it!
Just ride more & eat moar cake. That's my motto.

Took a couple of weeks when I sent some gloves back. I recall it being over a week before they confirmed they'd had them returned (when the tracking I'd paid for said they'd been delivered 3 days prior).

New jersey from Prendas

Spot on for fit in XL - I like that it looks like a pro-team jersey but isn't it.
Great kit (it's all Santini so good quality), although not sure on the short pads. One of my clubs used to have Santini made club kit, although the only thing I bought was a gilet, lots of other guys still wearing theirs. I was tempted by the same jersey when looking for DHB/Northwave alternatives but settled on Castelli when a good sale came along. Actually bought a Giant - Shimano replica jersey from Prendas instead, it's been awesome and I'd happy try more Etxeondo produced kit. The Craft Wales Commonwealth jersey I also bought from them, less so. Good jersey but material started to sag after only a couple of washes. I actually put it in a hot wash and shrunk it! Kind-of fits now! :D

Watching it seemed strange to see all these's pro's really suffering and absolutely mashing like us mere mortals do :)

Sent some jerseys back about 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything yet, will check the tracking info. Purchase date fell a bit badly on the CC statement so they've already been paid for rather than being credited within the same month. Though it sounds like the likelihood of that happening with Rapha is quite low

The TOB presentations presented by Eisberg don't half by Eisberg drag on a bit by Eisberg.
Haha yeah I thought that, really annoying as I'd rather see more racing than presentations, even something like 'highlights of what we missed with our main coverage', as miss so many parts breakaways/chasedowns etc. I've always preferred the Eurosport coverage (TdF) over the ITV/BBC/etc, just there's no way to watch it back on Catchup TV as Eurosport have their own apps/service you have to pay a subscription for.:o:(

One of the contractors here watched them on 'The Struggle' and said some riders were amazing to watch... Others were really disappointing! He said one guy from the breakaway had a 'mechanical' but it seemed like an excuse to walk up one steep section?! Not sure how true that was!

Sounds brutal, regardless! Anyone here live close? I'd not heard of it before...

I'm a day behind with my viewing so I've only seen Stage 1 (boo!). :(

Hope it doesn't come down to tracking as i used the Rapha return postage which is not track-able. I will give it another week before tracking them down.

DT Swiss Aerolight, I think.

I'll give them a pluck this evening and see if I can pick them up on a recording.

That flex is with the brake adjustment lever wide open, I ride with it closed and the pads quite close but not unreasonably so and the rub isn't so significant I feel myself slowing but prominent enough to hear.

I checked out the wheel I have, which is a horrible mess on its last legs that I bought second hand, spoke tensions allover the shop

120-130kg gives a noticeably high TIIIING

80 or so kg gives a Tuuuuuung

I cant imagine the driveside being any less than 100kg/f

Just got back in from seeing the tour of Britain with FT. We had a great day for it - really warm and plenty of sunshine. I set off about eight and made it to Alderley Edge just before ten. Pretty slow start, but I knew there was a lot ahead! We had a coffee and then set off, straight up The Wizard. It's a cat 4, but the Tour of Britain had given it a cat 2 or something absurd. It wasn't too bad a climb. After that we went to Bollington and Prestbury and up the Brickworks, which was another good climb, not too steep. Sadly my garmin has eaten this chunk of the ride, so that sucks! We stopped for some food at the top of the Brickworks then headed round to another cat 3 called the Windgatherer which, true to its name, was windy. We saw a few other cyclists about doing the same as us, getting some riding in before watching the Tour at various points. From the top of Windgatherer we headed down and through the Goyt Valley which was beautiful. Really nice long gentle climb out of there to just by the Cat and Fiddle. More food and then off we went. There were loads of people up by the (defunct) Car and Fiddle pub. We passed them then turned off towards Macclesfield forest. We missed a turn, but found another road we could ride up... The steepest road on our entire route. I couldn't be arsed riding up it, so I dropped my chain, failed to unclip and fell into the verge. Whoops. We got back on track, now a bit worried we'd not get back to the Wizard to see the race. We adjusted our route and pushed and lo and behold we got there in time. While waiting there we saw a familiar face pushing a familiar Canyon past - it was physichull and various of the North Cheshire Clarion club. We watched the riders go past - even at that point Stannard and the other leaders had a four minute gap - and then we all set off to Tatton. One of the NCC guys set a ludicrous pace and FT went off with him, probably glad of a quick rider after a morning with me! I ended up falling off the back with another guy from NCC who didn't fancy the pace. We got to Tatton with about an hour to spare, bought some hilariously expensive food and drink and watched the race on the big screen. We had no chance of seeing the actual riders come in - it was absolutely heaving there, so many people. Once it was all over me and FT parted company and I limped home, by now utterly mullered. All told I did over 90 miles, though I'm not sure quite how much given the Garmin had a fit. It was a great day, though. Lovely weather and great to ride some new roads.

Now to find the sudocrem... My undercarriage is ruined. I'll leave you with that thought.

Von covered it better than I could :) Awesome day out. Good to run into Physichull and co too.

The NCC guy I lead with was pretty strong. Quite fun to stretch my legs yeah though I did feel a bit like I shouldn't given you don't know the roads around there.
