Road Cycling

My wife (diabetic so she knows carbs like a pro) reckons just digestive biscuits is all you need - each one is a slug of slow burn carbs, nibble plenty before and during.

Cheap a.f too!

Digestives in a jersey pocket in the rain. New definition of soggy Biscuit..

I was deadlifting like a beast in the gym at lunch time and had some HIMSA blasting in my ears (some scarey metal band that makes you lift 10KG more just because METAL) when, suddenly, some Britney Spears started playing.... "What in the name of F"...... Put some HIMSA back on and then 5 seconds later some Fiddy Cent comes on which swiftly skips to Justin Beeber.

I thought my phone had basically become Casper the friendly Android device. Until realisation dawned:
The woman in my life who I kindly shared my Spotify account with realised she can cast music to my phones Spotify via hers whilst I am listening to it. She thinks it is ******* hilarious and this is my story of what women are capable of.
My missus did the same

Single speed?? Isn't that a hipster kinda thing?
You said it, not me! ;)
Great 'shock and awe' tactic to get headlines, reality will be they use it as another tool to crush cars they're already after due to other anti-social reasons. Also cars that are not worth auctioning which is what happens to most of the confiscated motors.

Good results from the close pass: http://road.cc/content/news/209069-...n-used-prosecute-78-drivers-say-west-midlands

Although in reality one of the comments on the above sums it up - This should be named 'operation doing our jobs properly'.
Unless you've been already then hopefully you haven't been shot dead in your car or murdered with a steel bar outside your house.
:D:D:D

Notice a theme? Glasgow gets a bit of a bad rep but there are nice parts. :)
Nothing special about cycling manufacturer produced bars other than the branding :)
This! So much 'cycling tax' on cycling related nutrition. Sometimes even just buying the running equivalent can save you money over the Cycling version.

Don't you find them a bit too crumbly!? Then again they're cheap enough that you wouldn't have to worry about dropping some. The amount of times I've dropped food and considered going back for it as it cost a few quid...!

Might be a little dry to eat on their own, maybe with chocolate...

I somehow survived the tornado yesterday lunchtime (30mph winds forecast). Was strong gusts in places and only a block headwind for 0.2 of a mile (thankfully!).

Cold one this morning, 1 degrees with -2 windchill. Didn't see any ice but some frost around so took it easy as much of the cycle path looked like it might have been close to frozen. Wearing my mountain warehouse merino base layers while sat at work and might actually be too warm...! They're going to get some use tomorrow too as I'm going to Cardiff to see Wales vs Japan. The warmer I am, the more cold beer I can drink! :D

Legs feel very average for some reason. I've commuted all week (not unusual) but I've also not rested since my turbo session on monday. Tomorrow won't be much of a rest (will be more walking than normal and sat in the cold), then I'm intending to do a couple of hours on the turbo sunday with Ross while he does his 24h ride... Thankfully I'm off work on Monday - rest day (but in reality I may head out if the weather is nice!).

Ok the perennial question: which turbo? I'm going to try and pick one up in the sales to help with my rehab.

I will have a garage to turbo my days away in so don't mind too much about noise, I just want something reasonably priced that I can smash it on trainer road.

Tacx tends to be the way to go for turbos. I have a road machine + inride pod which has a nice road feel and measures power accurately but it isn't a 'smart' turbo.

Yup, you don't need to get high and mighty about intra-ride food simple stuff often suffices.

Have been partial to the odd hob-nob myself (tupperware to keep them dry and from turning in to crumbs ;) ). Also had a few weeks where I'd loads of Ferrero Rocher to work through, very premium :p

Tend to use a 50/50 fat/carb split now with intra-ride nutrition so nut/seed/fruit mix in an empty hydro tab tube and nut based bars or Trek/EatNatural and of course a pr0t0n flapjack if the mood takes me.

Part of my curiosity about how cheaply you could sustain your weight & survive lead me to find almost 2,000 calories for 31p :D granted, it would not take long until you start to feel utterly awful and sick of eating digestives. Plenty of other biscuits to mix it up with ;) #cheaperthanhuel

88f / 258c (75s) / 26p & 14 fiber.

Any you can spend your savings on travel to the doctors to explain your vitamin & mineral deficiency :p

Yeah I'm just generally grabbing whatever is in the cupboards - my kids like the Jordans cereal bars - they actually taste good and they're slightly chewy so not dry (which I hate), pick up a load when they're on offer, plus we all like flapjacks - the Sainsbury's own brand flapjacks are awesome and dead cheap - individually wrapped - I'll take a couple of those out. The biscuits you can just wrap in foil or pop into a sandwich bag.

Fats and carbs burn at different speeds so fuelling can all get quite complex/technical (hence prevalence of sports nutrition experts etc) but certainly if you're taking on board a good mix of the two then you won't go far wrong.

Depending on budget - Tacx Flow Smart (~£200 @ Halfords or Decathlon) or a Tacx Vortex Smart (~£320 online). Basically the best bang for buck 'smart' trainers you'll find. I do find my Vortex quite whiney (in comparison to the Road Machines rumble) but I always ride with headphones on (music or TV).

For cheaper more 'basic' dumb trainers I'd be looking at Elite - they have a good rep and good support.

We're going to flesh out the trainer info in another post on the forums - https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=30221361

They're one of my main go-to's when on offer, natural museli bars with mixtures of fruits and nuts work very well for me. More recently I've been munching Hobnob snack bars, have to be a little careful with pocket orientation (due to chocolate one sided) but they're 5 bars for £1 most supermarkets. Maybe not the most balanced, but 22g carbs & 4g fat per bar with ~20% oats. Very grabbable!

Horrible Zero frames, found them really tight and pressed in HARD behind my ears! :(

Fantastic price though!

Muc Off stuff works well but you need to apply it almost weekly to retain during bad (wet) weather.

Eat more fat, burn more fat.

Have noticed significant improvements in my ability to ride for longer, further and harder on significantly less calories and less carbs by gradually introducing and increasing fat intake intra-ride. Not to mention less erratic energy levels.

Far from low carb, rather just moderate.

BennyC cycling about with Tupperware in his pockets to keep Hobnobs fresh and at hand.... I began this reply to damn the action to hell but I can't do so, because it's so British and fantastic. If I was on a ride and someone presented a Tupperware box of biscuits I would be over the moon.

Tupperware demands respect.

I defy anyone to refuse a biscuit when presented with one from within a Tupperware box. Not a chance sonny jim - you'll be taking one whether you like it or not. :D

One does not simply allow biscuits to be subject to the abuse of one's jersey pockets :p

Accomodates most biscuits nicely without consuming the entire pocket ;)

inb4 carrying as much tupperware as Roady does tools & spares.

You can all watch my tupperware stuffed pockets disappear in to the mist on the climbs in front of you :D

May in fact slow me down /excuses
