Road Cycling

I'd love to get into racing, but I travel overseas too much as part of my job that I couldn't get into any sort of training regime, or I'd miss most races etc.
Several local club guys I know travel overseas and take their bikes with them, but I guess military deployment isn't what you meant!?

There are many bike boxes around that if you are regularly flying with would soon earn their money, but I guess a big part of that is if you're flying for work what luggage allowances they have and how much you wanted to ride (not to mention time involved to build/strip each time). Personally if I was regularly flying with a bike it would probably be steel/alu and be nothing special so it could handle lots of knocks/drops and not be too painful to replace.
I quick like the fact it's not S-works though, you kind of have to know about it to 'get it', if you know what I mean.

I was changing my mind so many times, yes the Venge is a super fast bike, but the Tarmac has a pretty good reputation too! Even Sagan rides a Tarmac with the same 64 wheels a lot of the time.

Well if you see a bright orange bike, give me a wave! I come over you way a fair bit, but you wont be seeing this bike until Spring!!
Haha what club and where? Tumble/Gospel Pass? I tend to ride out with NFTO (or local shop's club 'Climb on Bikes') but unsure how many club rides there will be next year as we've not had one for months... Most of the usual suspects have made their own club 'ELY RC' which you might start seeing around. Similar kit, but Black and Pink.
Besides if you turned up on that not exactly a normal roadie compared to most gear being used in local club events :D
True, seen guys riding the TT's here in baggies and one older guy even with flat bars!:rolleyes:
also if you fall off it doesn't hurt
Helps that you have the body weight as a feather :p
Being a baw hair away from a wipeout
Best quote ever! Even better in a Scottish accent I bet! :D
Does anyone use any bike specific insurance?
Think Bikmo is what most here are using judging by this thread!.

On my 1000 it is

Where to > Back to Start

then you have options of along same route or most direct, yes the most direct is rubbish and never the best way home, but it works.

Hmm, haven't spotted that on 810. When you click for another course the only option is generally "Stop Course". Bit pants if they have decided to only include that feature on 1000.

If you stop the course, then reload it you also get a 'Navigate to Start?'. I do on my 810 anyway, seem to get it whenever I load a route and I'm not at the exact start location, if I'm somewhere along the route it seems to follow the route back.

Didn't think of that. Figured it would try it's own navigation back to start which is generally hilariously bad. Will have to try next time!

There was a vehicle (Clio) broken in to on the street I live on Tuesday night, smashed window, bent door etc and the contents of a gym bag strewn around. It's a very quiet area on the edge of a development, only a few houses and with only really dog walkers or people going for a stroll passing by, so likely opportunists.

Turns out though they also robbed my neighbours Bianchi from either his garden or garage :( He doesn't ride it much at all, very occasionally, did Ride 100 a few years back and that's about it.

I last used my bike in the garage on Tuesday evening to turbo but haven't been in there since with my standard Thursday session planned today. Nothing caught my eye on the drive or side gate yesterday or today, up & over door was closed and not obviously molested. My neighbour checked them today as I'm still at work and said they're fine. It's too dark to see the side door in the mornings/evenings and I've not heard it banging in the wind overnight...

I put my bike in there Monday evening and take it out Friday evening in prep for the weekend ride(s) but think I might just keep it in the house when not on the turbo for the time being! Heart was racing at my desk, all my gear is insured with Bikmo but still got that horrible feeling.

Think I'll check in the garage after parking up when I get home, rather than kitting up for a session to find my beloved is gone!

I'd prefer to get into TTs to be honest. Overtaking super expensive TT bikes on a normal roadie FTW ;)

Did some training for, and took part in, my first TT organised by my Club. Absolutely loved it. Arguably a safer discipline with variables you've some actual control over. Something fantastic about absolutely ringing your own neck in the TT position that is friggin' awesome

Also these could be pretty favourable for commuting and winter riding, had a play with a few at the NEC the other month.

Thanks for the info on insurance. Bikmo is coming out at £550 a year. I'll have to look at the finer print to make sure everything is what I want.

Roady - there's no way I could travel with my bike. I'm only there anywhere from 2 - 5 days.

And I'm off to Ethiopia on Saturday, I wouldnt want to cycle there even if I could!!

My wife sorts the insurance at home and she said "£300 is enough for your bikes isn't it?" Which on the one hand is awesome as she doesn't know how much they cost but on the other hand... no :p

CRC "Black Friday" aka Black November strikes again :o I think I need professional help :o

Pretty much decides it then! Just hire one when/where you go somewhere worth riding! Use the fact you travel to various places to your riding benefit! ;)

Probably best to keep it extra secure for a month or so, at least until some time has passed with no further incidents!

Good news for the solid tyre brigade, really really want one designed for the turbo as to me that's a perfect use for them! They wouldn't need as much testing, hardly any grip or weight requirements and wouldn't lose pressure over time!

What did you spot? I've been totally underwhelmed by any Black Friday deals so far this year... :(
I just insure my bikes on the home insurance - I find it perfectly adequate, and I'm an insurance broker for a living!
Haha my other half is too, ours are bundled on our home insurance (Axa or Aviva can't remember which) and we only pay £16.50 extra for the two specified that are 'worth over £500' (my Defy @ £900 and Diverge @ £1750). Doesn't cover any accessories or racing but not too bothered about that. Don't think they're covered on holiday but are away from home. She gets quite a staff discount on our home insurance/holiday cover anyway and obviously avoids any admin charges. But hardly anything (just no admin) on the car so I've got that elsewhere (actually with the NFU lol).

We're with Aviva - pedal cycles add £31 for the year.

Pedal cycles are automatically covered under contents cover while they're kept at home (subject to the policy limits and exclusions). If you want to cover your bikes away from home, including on holiday while abroad you will need this additional cover.

It doesn’t matter how many bikes you’d like to insure, just enter the value of your most expensive cycle.

IIRC, they don't go above £2500 but that covers my most expensive MTB (on new-for-old).

Hey guys. May I get your opinion on a close call with a bus the other day?

I guess I'm kinda used to being treated like road debris on the road, but I showed this video to a few friends at work and they've been pushing me to send it to the bus company. I doubt it'll get me anywhere, and no actual collision occurred, but my friends said I should report it for other cyclists.

Basically, usual thing happened I was in bus/cycle lane, but following a little close by a bus. I approach a left hand turn, but need to go straight ahead. The cycle cycle lane carries on straight, which I believe gives me right of way. I guess the bus blocked me from sight, as a car overtook and signalled left. I slammed on the breaks, and the bus just about broke in time (I could feel the heat from the bus). I only have footage from the rear. I'm thankful the bus driver broke in time, but I feel he shouldn't have been so close to me in the first place.

Anyway, here's the video, I would be grateful for you opinions.

Good police safety video.

Good advice, I just brought one of the Pro Viz jackets which are very reflective. High viz (orange, yellow etc) is pretty useless in the dark though, only really good in low light. You want something completely reflective.
