London-based cycling apparel and lifestyle brand Rapha is reportedly next on the wishlist of the investment firm.
Hope nothing changes with with two brands!
Do you leave your mobile phone for weeks unused and expect it to have charge?:p
Yes! My CAT B100 anyway... :p
Anyone have one of those Cycliq Fly6 rear camera/light things?
janp has one, not sure who else. The low quality video always put me off, but neat idea. Battery burntime is nothing like my VIRB or a normal rear light though...

Totally unrelated... But how does everyone manage this time of year relating to chocolate and general 'winter excesses'?

Weighed myself last weekend and I'm 'down' to 74.5kg. Had expected my weight around 76kg (where I was around 2 months ago when riding more) and if anything to have gone up from more lazy eating & less riding. Seems like it's gone down slightly! Need to weigh over a few days to get my average.

Now the winter treats have started (2 biscuits and 5 Roses/Quality Street so far today and counting...) I'm expecting my 'beach body' to firmly leave until the spring. At least with my turbo routine I'll have some justification to not saying no... Not that I ever do!

Now where's the chocolate panettone (this Waitrose one is amazing!) ;) :D

Haha love the deep rims too!

Damn warm at lunchtime, totally overdressed, low on power due to hard session last night and gusty headwinds everywhere = one sweaty mess. Garmin reported 14.5 degrees! :o

I regularly wear headphones while riding. Not so much in winter though. Don't really see an issue if you're sensible.

I rode for years with headphones in both ears and never had issues - if anything it made me use my eyes to check around me more.

Same, it's never loud enough to be able to stop me hear what's going on. If anything I find it helps me focus more.

I'm between pairs at the moment as my neckband sports headphones are dying and ear buds aren't great often falling out or needing adjustment.

I actually find it much more pleasant to ride with something in my ears as I ride so fast :o all the wind noise is annoying :p but on a more serious note I do find having something in my ears on solo rides to be of a benefit. Music is proven to lower RPE too so you'll normally benefit more than you realise :)

Does anybody know when bike stores tend to start discounting the 2017 bikes that were announced October time? I'm assuming they don't keep the same models at the same price until next sep/oct?

Would a price drop Jan/early Feb be realistic?

Wouldn't mind a single speed cyclo cross bike for the winter bike (ice/snow) as my steel tourer can only take 28mm tyes. Only the new Genesis Day one have disc and I really don't like disc brakes. Crap stopping power and no modulation.

Could get a Carrera Axle for a run around bike for pretty good price, that's a regular old school mountain bike style.

Try Hydraulic discs. Far better stopping power in the wet and definitely better modulation.

I'd have loved some discs this morning when a car slammed on in front of me for a deer crossing... Wet greasy roads so my rear tyre skidded a little - hydraulic disc modulation would have been great.

Even if it's Christmas songs that your mrs added to your stream (that's xdcx's excuse anyway)? ;)

Love mine! Stopping power is immense whatever the weather! :D

Although wet commute this morning, rear makes a 'whuuuurllllweeeerrrrrlllllloooooo' sound not that loud when braking harder than a 'speed scrub', front literally makes a loud foghorn 'HOOOOOWWWWOOOOOONNNNNPT' that makes young children cry and old dears jump at bus stops. Totally different noises and the front seems to be getting worse? Is it normal for noisy discs to get noisier once they bed in? My front makes noise when braking hard and not even wet. When in the stand, spinning the wheel (and brakes not on) I can hear a 'fwitfwitfwitfwit' when I listen carefully from it. No warping or marks on the disc but it must be something alignment based? It's made it from new ~1400 miles ago. I've not tried to realign it myself yet, as never worked on bike discs before! :(
Not just any deep rims though! Lightweight Meilensteins, the most incredibly ridiculous wheels you can buy :P

I think before we can help you Roady we really need a youtube video of yourself making all of these noises ;)

I've got Avid hydraulic discs on my MTB and Tektro cable discs on my road bike and both make noise but the front on the MTB is on another level! HEEEEEEYYYYYOOOOOONNNK :p Neither are run in properly yet (less than 150 miles on each :o ) but the Tektro's are settling in while the Avids are getting louder!

Boardman on radio 4 Inarticulately discussing this (he should stick to cycling like coe should have kept his spikes on)

The new proposal follows research conducted on behalf of British Cycling in a bid to make junctions safer, simpler and more efficient for all road users, based on successful existing models in place in countries such as Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden. In practice, the changes would see:

Drivers turning at a junction giving way to people cycling and walking who may be on your nearside, or crossing the road you wish to turn into.
Cyclists turning at a junction giving way to people walking who are crossing the road you wish to turn into.
Pedestrians getting increased protection when crossing a side road or other junction.

as the antagonist suggested this will give the cyclists who later filter down the gutter an undue sense of security sitting in any remaining lorries blindspot.
Clearly drivers should already give way to people crossing the road they turn into, was surprised that is not already mandated; but the maybe on your nearside clause - if the cyclist arrived first or negotiated/eye-contact his right of way with the driver, fine, the motorist gives way - regular rules of the road ; but carte blanche responsibility for the driver ?
They do not discuss precisely what are the rules in those other countries, i suspect they are dishonestly interpreting them - bandwagoning
