Road Cycling

why do you leave bikes outside for months? After all that time it'll need to be stripped down to base components, regreased, unseize parts, inner and outers changed, new chain, service derailleurs.

so they should be fine ? :)

If they're protected from the elements I can't see why not. Might be an idea to deflate them and pop them off the rim though on further thought I doubt the weight of the bike would make much difference.

If you're getting enough miles on them I can't see them seeing more than one winter stored as you suggest.

If you're that concerned store the tyres inside? presuming they were/are foldable.

After advice fom you guys here and a chat with our US wellness team...

A deal has been struck! (Didn't want the Garmin 25 anyway :) )

I have Garmin Vector 2 and Campy Zonda Wheelset on its way to me, pity I have to wait until end of March :(

So, end of March was not correct, Shipped :) after over 16 years at the same place it would seem I was being harsh...this time!

No Garmin V2 though, they have been replaced with PowerTap P1 on our company scheme, after a bit of research they seem an 'on par' replacement, unless anyone knows different?

Should be here start of Feb, can't wait!

Nice one. I'm finally back in the country tomorrow, fitting my Vectors as soon as I get in lol!

Weather forecast doesn't look great though......

(I think I missed the worst of the massive snowstorm of 2017 ;))

Thursdays commute home.. as you can imagine it was terrible.

Got so drenched in the first few miles that my feet/hands were soaking and temperatures dropped to -2c resulted in blue fingers/feet! never have I been in so much pain/discomfort while cycling. Couldn't even grip my brakes.

totally let down by the gloves and shoes, fair enough I had no shoe covers but wow did not expect that!

slush at the end was hairy too on 25mm slicks.

I made it home but I don't want to repeat it :o

Sound pretty grim grudas. Thankfully I wimped out and drove, tempted for a moment to take the mtb but settled on a nice warm safe car.

Merlin - How did you get on with your bike?

All clean :)

Bike is still in the box as it only arrived yesterday and this morning i took the mtb out.

Will get it out the box tonight and 3M the frame before it gets out into the big bad world! :)

Wagwan from Jamaica mon!

Weather has been warm but lots of cloud & winds so tan is struggling. No cycling but with a wet day forecast this afternoon/tomorrow I may see what's in the gym...! Just finished G''s book and about to start the Hoy one. Saw I missed some snow and pretty stinky cold weather around home, club rides cancelled and everything! Hope you're all keeping safe! :)

Well Halfords rang and they've replaced the BB on my 5 month old bike but they've said after a test ride (!!! I feel violated) it's "still sounding a bit crunchy" - so they're replacing the chain too.

I've no idea if this is all warranty, I guess I'll find out shortly.
Should be all warranty if they've not mentioned prices... Just make sure you give it a good look over afterwards and if you're not 100% happy let them know! Last time Halfords serviced a bike for me (3+ years ago) it went back 3 times as they couldn't index it. A Google and YouTube video later (20 minutes) i'd taught myself indexing and it was smoother than it'd ever been!

Trained monkeys, are still just monkeys at the end of the day.
For those who don't listen to the Cycling Podcast, you should. But especially the latest one with a fantastic interview with Tao Geoghan Hart, who is as articulate as he is brilliant on a bike
GCN or another? Quite interested in some of the other young neo-pro kinda signings as I think TGH to be slightly overrated (but hardly seen him race).
Ordered my Specialized Diverge Elite DSW 2017 bike off Sigma Sport with Specialized plug and play v2 mudguards should be here tuesday.

Are the Espoir sport tyres fine that come with it? mainly using it for commuting and the odd long rides every so often.
You'll love it! Diverge Comp carbon owner here, had it since September-ish and clocked up 1500 miles or so. I went with SKS Chromo plastics on mine, great fit on the rear but the front was a pain and took some fettling. Heard the plug n plays are good but still not 'plug and play' (no mudguard is). You pay for them though. Mine came with Roubaix pro tyres and they're awesome, I took them off and fitted slicks (Pro4 endurance), before refitting the Roubaix when the wet weather/winter came (and had the pro4''s slide out on me). I've only had 1 puncture on the Roubaix''s from a pothole.

There is a 'Specialised Diverge Owners and Enthusiasts' group on Facebook that's pretty amazing for info, big majority of them are Americans but still all good info and many members worldwide. Some of them doing some crazy stuff! Seen flat bar & fat bike conversions, CX racers, tourers, trail/gravel riders as well as lots of road riders (like me). Such a versatile frame!

Problem is, I have 2 bikes, both stored outside with a heavy duty cover over them, but its a carbon fibre frame so pretty light but only sees the summer.

Ive been off the bike for 2 years now (health reasons) and im hopeing this year I will be back

jesus how fast was you cycling? 30mph? in those conditions? Your lucky u are still alive lol

Not much riding this week, first week at new job.

Commute from Wigan to Birchwood (Warrington). I could probably ride in the same time or less than the drive takes but I need shirt & tie every day in the office. Maybe when the weather gets better I could possibly ride if I was super organised. Had to de ice the van to get home one day after work, not good riding weather at all!

Agreed to purchase a house which comes with its own training shed ;) already scoped out the neighbour as a training buddy as that's how his is setup! Will be better if I can leave the bike setup on the trainer and just get going straight after work, not so easy living with the in laws!

It's been a very mild winter.

I cycled all through the 2010 winter.

I cycled during

Great start to 2017 so far, trapped nerve in my neck & now a broken big toe.
Total of less than 50 mile this month so far :(

Things can only improve in February !

don't think I went over 25 tbf! :) I did have to go a bit harder a few times to keep my body warm! I don't mind rain or cold etc but this was a bad a combo of everything.

??? I cycle all year round, doesn't change the fact that it was very bad conditions for cycling that day.
