I think we were both agreeing with you tbh
Sorry, I didn't think my post said you weren't! God bless internet communication
Impressive - distance and speed
Any of you guys have any experience with cycling travel insurance? Any recomended companies/experiences?
Double the elevation though!
17 rainy miles first thing to test my power meter. 171W weighted average, says strava, which is hardly earth shattering. It was interesting to see how the numbers move, and how you can cruise at a high speed for under 100W but then as soon as you hit an incline you need way more to sustain it, or when you pull away from the lights. It made me understand better what my legs feel when I'm riding. I powered away from the lights at one point and got over 700W (3s average) and then immediately felt exhausted. It helps to give some perspective on what I'm doing out there.
I did manage to slip when clipping in at the lights and smashed my shin into the pedal. Ouch. One day I'll learn that I can't clip in road cleats anything close to as quick as SPD ones.
I could have pushed harder, but probably not by all that much. I'm tired and got a lot on today so wasn't going all out. I'll do that sort of route again as you can bang along large sections of it at pace as its flat and in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately there are roadworks in the middle of it which means about 500m is pretty lethal so you can't go very quick at all there.
At the end of the day the numbers were better than I'd feared, but worse than I'd hoped, but I'm sure that's the case for all of us
Gonna try some hills tomorrow. Even coming up the slight hill into Atherton I was hitting 300W at times.
But yeah, it is funny how it fluctuates. You can do like 100W to maintain 18mph or something but as soon as it ramps up a bit of the wind hits you, you have to do loads more, or it slopes down a bit and everything goes slack and all of a sudden you're doing... nothing.
Talking about power meters: Power2Max are doing a summer upgrade for owners of the original power meter. Upgrade to a Type-S for 345 Euros. http://www.power2max.de/europe/en/Produkt/favorites-en/power2max-upgrade-3/
I have an old Italian Olmo Giro bike I am trying to get back in service for my dad.
It has a 70mm Italian threaded BB (36X24F) 111mm Mirage BB (the one with 6 half moon notches).
With a triple Mirage crankset.
I want to replace the BB as the bearings are gritty and just not very nice anymore after all these years.
Anyone know if :
Cantaur BB will work?
If I buy the Italian (70mm) 111mm spindle version, it should be a direct replacement yes? It says in the description it supports all years mirage crankset, so I shouldn't have any issues with it?
I also need to order some new cables, any recommendations for campag specific gear cables that won't break the bank?
I'm looking at Transfil kit (I need to replace the outers as well, lot of rust in them)
And finally, the barrel adjuster in the rear mech has snapped, so need to try and find a replacement.
was there any wear indicator on them?
It could send you flying over the bars that! I'd rather not risk it
That rotor looks like it's made of cheese
I dont really think it's fair to blame the brakes. Rotors are consumable parts of the braking system, the same as they are on cars. 12,000 miles is a huge distance and I doubt any other type of rotor would have lasted much longer than that either.
One of the main advantages of disc brakes is that you can replace the rotors when they wear out rather than the whole rim.
Just look at your nice carbon wheels and think how lucky you are that you only need new rotors and pads* and not a whole new wheelset
*You should get new pads with your new rotors even if the old pads have some life left in them.
Gabba 2...
Is anything else worth considering? Looking for something to wear on a 300 miler that goes through the night. Needs to keep me warm when I'm cold and cool when I'm hot, and not get clammy.
Yeah for sure! See my edit I ordered at lunch normal mail, it hasn't been processed so hopefully yours is being prioritised as you paid next day.
