Road Cycling

Haha yeah, next up 50mph, will get the new wheels on weekend and give it another go!
Just saw your Strava title :D I didn't realise it at the time but I actually met one of the British land speed record holders... 75mph+ in the Nevada desert. He was one of the mechanics at the triathlon relay event I did. I recognised him in a video I saw a few weeks later on YouTube. https://kenbuckley.co.uk/2015/09/28/final-whpsc-blog-setting-the-bar/

He holds the fastest time round the bike course I did too so when he asked how I went he was probably more than a little interested.

After this weekends charity ride I really need to start getting out more in the week, I'm overdue a good amount of hill reps and have got my eye on the golf course climb not too far away from home... 3 of them and I should be questioning my sanity! ;)

Along with that I want to get some 10 mile efforts in to 'practice' pacing for my first attempt at some local TT's. I've planned this as a starting point - A 26 mile local loop with a 10 mile TT (that's only ridden a couple of times a year). An ~8 mile 'warm up' and an 8 mile cool down. TT'ers is that the sort of thing you do for training? Or should I be doing shorter ~12 mile high intensity rides?

I'm off out for a quick few miles as the kids are driving me round the bend, i'll even brave the wind and the fading daylight to get the **** out. :p
Was that the 55mph land speed record ride? Nutter! Be careful lol;)

Northern? Ha! You can call him Northern when he's eating a babby's yed with chips and gravy and a pea wet!

It's certainly a good starting point, no point over complicating things at this stage.

Getting some hard 45-60 min rides in as well where you focus on keeping the avg power up/high 80/90% of Threshold as well. It may not be the most efficient way to ride, nor the fastest way to climb (not hitting the slopes fresh) but to get used to TT'ing, not freewheeling and keeping the power down.

Also try not to think of it as a race as you're guarenteed to go out too hard at the start that way :p

TeamSky's warm-up protocol.

I'm the riding the Tour of Peaks (http://velo29events.com/sportives/tour-of-the-peak/) on Sunday where there are some pretty sweet downhills so might max out at 60mph. It all depends on wind direction and how effective the brave pills are :D

I'm riding Saturday + Sunday in the Peaks too this weekend. Six of us renting a cottage somewhere near Tideswell, then two days of riding for me and brother-in-law  BiL is doing Saturday's route and I think he's loading it with climbing, though not that you can really avoid it in the Peaks.

Warmed up last Sunday with the Tour de Yorkshire sportive - 98km and 2200m of climbing (Strava)

I can see how that can be blamed on the rotor and as one commenter said high impact crashes won't have the sustained pressure against the leg like that.

Still, I'd be nowhere near that bunch. Weaving up and down the road and a guy who can't brake from the hoods?!?!? Blame the gatorskin on the camera bike for good measure.

Calling all internet bike fitters, when deciding on a frame size between different brands is it best to compare stack and reach?

first time on a road bike today. feels weird sitting above 2 very narrow wheels. are they as fragile as they look?

Welcome!

The rims and tyres are probably stronger than they look. make sure your PSI on your tyres are quite high to negate the risk of pinch flats.

I regularly bunnyhop my road bike off kerbs with 80kg of me and 6-8kg of pannier, hardly mad hucking but the wheels are 8000 miles old and still straight, round and true.
