Road Cycling

Hmmmm...same.....

Although we're supposed to have a northerly wind for a lot of the week, which is literally the best news for me considering my commute direction.

First commute on the bike today, Strava shows 4.3 miles and I did it in just over 16 minutes, should be able to knock a fair few off that over the coming weeks. I doubt I could drive it and park up in that time. As a bonus, the showers at work are pretty decent.

Was hoping to get out for a 100 today but it's chucking it down right now. Looks like it might clear a bit later so perhaps I'll try my luck in an hour or so and go for a metric or something.

Chaps would this be okay to secure my bike with the Krytonite cable?

Don't want to lug the D Lock around all the time.

Or what about a Masterlock from B&M for example:

If you don't mind your bike being stolen, sure.

If you want lightweight then get something like this: http://www.kryptonitelock.com/en/products/product-information/current-key/001447.html

...assuming your bike insurance accepts silver secure of course.

It's in a locked compound at work, but people have been known to jump over the metal fence (6ft high) and rob unlocked bikes. I don't see someone jumping over in broad daylight and cutting a lock surely?

I might nip to the bike shop at lunch and pick something up from there.

I'm medium in Rapha but XL in Castelli, very odd!
This comment concerns me most of all! :o

I have a 155mm Specialized Power Pro saddle on 30 day test with Hargroves at the moment and it seemed pretty comfortable on the first ride. Will see how it goes and if its no good i will probably revert back to the Specialized Roman Pro i used to use a couple years ago. The Power Pro looks a little odd being a short saddle, but if its comfortable, i don't care!
Totally agree - it doesn't matter what a saddle looks like, providing it's comfy! Know a guy who rides with the ISM PL/PR all the time (TT saddle with the weird two pronged nose). It's so ugly!

Roady I think I may have a 25 per cent off before you buy. Grab a code bundle with jersey for 105.

Had numerous bibs from classics to pro team to core. All great for long rides as long as the fit is good and tight elsewhere. Like any shorts if they're too big or small elsewhere the pad will be uncomfortable. Found this out as I shrunk compared to my shorts
You're a legend, thanks for emailing it me (although as Liam pointed out it's quite a generic code anyway lol). I'm having the same 'sizing issue' with my commuting Castelli's :D

Difficult choice is now, with that code the Pro Team are £146, the Brevet at £135, Classic £124 and the Core are £75. All within the maximum (£150) I wanted to spend. Most of the opinions I've read/heard say the Core are brilliant shorts and it's not worth going up to the Classic. I just wonder if the Pro/Brevet are worth it... Although kinda double the price lol. Dilemma!

Looking like this might be a low mileage week for me, rain currently looks on the cards everyday until Saturday.
Turbo for me! Will be the only way I get some dry miles in this week being away friday->sunday. Getting wet commuting means I won't be choosing to also get wet by leisure riding in the rain!

Good work, my old commute was similar distance and time. Took me 35/40mins when I started commuting! Think my quickest ever was 14 mins.

Sigh. I ride mostly by myself, but on some sort of semi-regularity with a chap nearby, who has just gone and bought an s-works tarmac. I might have to block his number for fear of major bike envy.

Will also be a struggle to keep up :p.

Sadly that sounds all too possible :/

Personally for work I just leave a very heavy and secure d-lock attached to a random bike stand rather than carry it to and from work all the time.

The fact you're questioning it and the fact it's been known for people to jump over then there's a possibility of it happening.

It's all about risk - if you know people have had 'unlocked' bikes stolen from there, then at the very least you need to lock your bike there. If your bike is a better 'target' than others (say there's no others unlocked there), then you should be doing all you can to secure it to at least not make it an 'easy' target. i.e. No basic cable locks!

As FT mentions (you'll see this advised anywhere): lock it with whatever level of lock your insurance requires. Basically - if someone wants your bike there is realistically very little you can do to stop them. You're insuring it for that reason, so do what you need to at least cover yourself with your insurance.

Same. I leave my Evolution mini 7 (and flex cable) locked up at work. There's very few bikes & people around here (private drive) but whenever my bike is locked up outside is when reception is manned during the day. I wouldn't leave it locked up overnight here even though the area is quiet. It's not directly covered by CCTV but I know from our cameras on the drive that vehicles come and go all through the night (couple of private houses on the same drive).

A Venge is the only solution. Beat him at his own game! ;)

Okay cheers, I'll grab a small Kryptonite lock from the cycle shop at lunch time. If I find my current Kryptonite D Lock keys I'll pass that to the GF.

I always say buy the cheapest lock your insurance will pay out on. Any decent sold-secure lock will stop chancers, and literally nothing will stop determined professionals.

Exactly. I think the general consensus is - if a lock has taken a professional thief more than a minute to get through then it's done it's job well. Some of the videos you can find online are scary! I remember one about the first hiplock(I think?) when the kickstarter was running, videos on the kickstarter of it standing up to grinders, blowtorches, saws & bolt cutters. Yet a video went around forums of a thief cutting through one with a pair of scissors in literally 3s.:confused:

Well sadly, we can just about afford our building works.

So that means no money for cycling for a few years :(.
Ouch, big extension? Just think of all the extra space you'll have to fill afterwards! :D

I'm in the 'not allowed to buy anything because we have a baby coming' situation. Any linked conversations involving savings and cycling are usually closely followed by a 'how do you have that much money left at the end of each month?' (as I've been quite good at curbing my Wiggle spending...! I can't win/I'm my own worst enemy!) :o

Yeah, a big extension, and then the likelihood that we also get a baby coming as well. I might as well give up any hopes of a new bike :D.

Sadly the extension does not include a "gym"/turboing room. Still relegated to the garage for that!
