Road Cycling

Hopefully! Will continue swapping out parts on my 5800 setup when needed. A 'fast' cassette is next on my list! :D

To be honest the price of some 105 5800 components I've recently considered grabbing some of the deals on a full Ultegra 10 speed (6700) setup as an upgrade for the other half (she needs some new bits including a shifter on her Sora 9 speed setup - although I'm in no hurry as bring pregnant she won't ride again for another 8-9 months!).

Really cool this morning, took a look outside earlier and dressed for drizzle - should've dressed warmer! Thankfully it's staying mostly dry... So far.

From what Ive seen already, I think they have already dropped. I used to see 6800 Ultegra for about 650 but I can see it for ~500 now. Still not enough for me to swap from 10spd DA and Ultegra though.

Yeah even 6700 is still more expensive than 5800, mostly because the 5800 prices went up and I guess availability of 6700 is getting more scarce.

I must've missed this one, but Strava have now bundled all of the different 'apps' into an Apps section of the site - https://www.strava.com/apps

I would say it makes things easier to find, but there's so much in there you really need to know what you're looking for and not really 'browsing'. I know the majority I use have usually come from 'outside connections' to Strava (Veloviewer, Zwiftpower, MyWindsock etc) rather than starting from within Strava. Maybe we'll see that begin to change now with App suggestions appearing within Strava itself.

I need a new Ult 10spd FD for my commuter and places are selling them for £25 new. I dont ever remember seeing them being sold for that much so they are slowly going out. Fortunately I can get a 2nd hand one for 15 delivered.

Yeah although I've only broadly been watching the price on shifters rather than the rest of the components - I've hardly seen them drop any in the last 6/8 months (since I started looking!). I've got a 28T cassette barely used but the chances of the other half ending up on 10 speed is looking less and less likely. Certainly not when 5800 shifters can still be found for the same/similar money & I have an old FSA HT crankset I could use.

Supposedly, it's ~17C outside, but with the man cave window open I'm feeling a bit chilly wearing PJ bottoms; a t-shirt and merino long-sleeved jersey... Not exactly encouraging me to put on the MAMIL uniform and explore the Meon Valley Trail on the fatbike!

I did not know that! That saves a headache, Thanks!

(You 100% sure i can mix speed?).
The front derailleur is a double, it has no concept of 10/11 speed and the distance difference between chainrings I believe is only marginal (if at all) between them. The front limit screws control the distance between the two 'extremes' of the levers movement of the mech, there's not really any indexing to worry about.

Obviously rear derailleur is a different story!

It's warming up, was around 14/15 degrees at lunch and due to the windchill & moisture in the air it felt cooler. Now the wind has died down it's warming up (15/16 or so). Would still carry a packable as it's overcast still.

I'm considering buying 2 pairs of Rapha shorts to 'try out' for my birthday (and then 'neglecting' to send one of them back), while at the same time aware that my 4 pairs of day-to-day commuting shorts (Castelli Evoluzione XL) are a poor fit and need changing at some point... I could be spending £400 in shorts!
I do love my Rapha shorts, but having just cycled 600 miles in Assos, for all day comfort I can't recommend anything else now, and I won't be buying anything else in future. Not even Rapha.

Viva kuku-penthouse!
Ok I had to look that up, I don't have any shorts with a penthouse for my front bits.

The only thing I will say is that the Assos shorts tend to have more back material than the Rapha shorts do. Normally this isn't a problem, but on the turbo I prefer my Rapha pro shorts because there's less to soak sweat up.

Haha bit late as I've ordered some... Went for a set of 'Pro Team' and a set of 'Core'. Decided that the two 'extremes' were the best to decide rather than going Classics & Core, (at least of those shorts within my budget with the 25% discount). I'm intending on sending one pair back, if I notice little difference between them it'll be the Pro. Maybe then look at some Assos for a direct comparison! ;)

If they're 100% amazeballs I intend on keeping both (hopefully!) then I need to flog a load of cycling kit (I no longer wear/no longer fits) to clear some room and justify spending £210 on two pairs of shorts...

Crazy, there's a pair of used Core selling for £77 on Ebay with a day left. With the code they're £75 new with free postage from Rapha...! I maybe should sell them rather than just send them back! :o

Is this the legendary ball-hammock I've heard about?

EDIT: Birthday tomorrow. 37 ffs. How'd that happen!?

3 days away in The Gower without my bike. Will be good for some solid rest days but really need to get on the turbo later as I've only done ~60 miles this week. :o

Have a good weekend all!

Guys, its the future! No longer do you have to decide where do dress, left, right, up...(down?!?). You can coil it up and leave it be and it doesn't move! Kuku is also fleece lined!

I'm not a fan of the padding so high up on my assos shorts but they are so comfortable elsewhere that I can put up with it. The padding should be reserved for areas where I make contact with the saddle...and I dont sit on my little chap so he doesnt need any foam padding around him!
On some longer rides the top edge of the foam padding has rubbed away all the skin and left me bleeding at the front of my waist above my sausage :(

Seems a bit extreme for all day comfort!

By 'longer rides', I mean 3-4 days, so they do still provide "all day comfort" for a single day. I can feel the pad starting to rub after a full day riding but its just annoying at that point rather than painful.
I just dont see the point in having padding that high up.

Different strokes I guess, but for me, the Kuku is now a requirement for all riding. I dont like how most bibs only have padding for your rear, and then leave the little guy directly on lycra, unwanted friction.
