Road Cycling

If anyone ever has the pleasure of riding with BennyC, don't waste your time asking if that was the last climb, he'll say yes when there's another 10 left :p

Bruh it's windy at the back ;) "The last of that climb" :p

Sent you the profile n00b so shhhh you knew what you were in for!

Cracking Effort!! Well done chap :) Looking forward to the low down on how you found it.

Was there any snow at the top of the Galibier or has it all gone?

Shall write something up tomorrow.

Still a little bit of ice mounds around but no snow really. The descent coming off it was some of the best scenery I think I've ever seen. Took it all in at 30mph. Not as tired as I thought I'd be. Got one more day here so gonna tick another col off the list tomorrow. Guys I'm with think I'm mad.

Well 3 days away in the Gower and I fired up Strava a couple of times to check the distance to the two beaches we were walking to (debate over which was closer! She won! sigh):

We must've clocked up 15+ miles over the 3 days which wasn't bad going for a little white dog, a pregnant woman and a cyclist who hardly walks anywhere! My calfs are feeling it now with the uphill slog back to the pub/accommodation!

Great weather, although windy. Generally 14-18 degrees with the windchill. Lots of superb food and even more superb beer! I'm sure the local 'Gower Brewery' don't made a single bad ale (my usual Gower tradition is to have tried every single one before we leave). The only problem with the gusty cooling winds was the sun really catching us out - my neck is currently two tone. Like a Rhubarb & Custard.

oh you guys moaning about the temps.

Come up the Col Du Sabot at 7.30 at night....in the hail and rain....Only the 1.1c.....

1 degrees?! Didn't you guys check the temps before heading out?! Madmen! :p

On some longer rides the top edge of the foam padding has rubbed away all the skin and left me bleeding at the front of my waist above my sausage :(
I wondered why Assos^man always wore shades. It's to hide the pained look in his eyes.

734 miles cycled in June. That'll do.
16 miles of running as well. I wasn't expecting that.
495 miles here, about right for me although May was lower than it should've been. I need to continue the 100+ miles a week but with only 60 last week and 3 evenings this week written off in advance it might be hard. I'm meant to be building miles! :o

Well yesterday was glorious! Lovely ride out in the Alps.
Started off chilly at the top of the Col Du Glandon, with quite a bit of wind, climbing up to the Croix de Fer to warm up.

Then I got into my element on the fantastic descent down, the day slowly warmed up as we made our way to the Lacets de Montvernier. Which was an easy climb, but well worth the off road excursion to take a few photos.

After grabbing some food we then began the long old climb up the Glandon, with Sunday in all of our heads we took it easy, stopping a few times. Fantastic climb nonetheless with some great views, but glad to get it out the way, as the weather was starting to turn, getting colder and starting to rain a bit.

Think my body didn't enjoy yesterday as had a dickie stomach last night, but seems to have settled luckily. Got to go and get our registration done then smash out La Marmotte tomorrow!!! Hoping the weather will be kind!

Those pictures are superb, kudos for crossing so many off, even before La Marmotte! Mega kudos for your Marmotte ride as well, superb riding! Maybe one day...! :o

You survived descending on your Chinese carbon clinchers then? :D

Castelli Gabba 2 short jersey any good for summer?

If not, would anyone be able to recommend a Castelli jersey for the summer. Prefer Castelli as I like their sizing but am open to other similar sizing brands.

I have the LS and SS, I've worn the long sleeve in 22c/24c heat and the SS in 28c heat and been fine.

Ive got one of the previous versions of the Volata jerseys. It's lightweight and has perforated side panels. I find it good above 15c or so, rubbish below.

Anyone else doing the Magnificat this weekend?

I'm torn between doing the Epic route (which is what I signed up for) or the Standard route? Yesterday has knocked my confidence a bit in terms of whether I'd be able to manage it, given how hard I found the last 20 miles of the ride after all the climbing

Wtf, how can anyone wear a gabba in 20C or hotter.

Seriously, don't buy that as a summer hot weather jersey!

Look at the Castelli Free Aero, Climber's jersey or Aero Race.

Fair enough, everyone is different, but it's definitely marketed as a foul weather jersey not a summer jersey.:p

I overheat in 15C if I'm wearing a Perfetto and it's not raining!

You'll be fine with the epic. Riding in a big group is massively easier than riding alone or with just 2 of you. Just take extra food :)

I think it's rated to like 20c by Castelli, certainly the SS for me was good for way beyond 20c. Actually I'm pretty sure I did a track session in 30c heat in the SS with just the zip dropped a few inches the week before last!
