Road Cycling

Haha people.

I have 0 KOMs. Very hard to get them around here :(

Not that I could get one anyway but the Tour of Britain (mens and womens) came through the town I live in so the pros have a lot of the ones round me and there are a few big cycling clubs with quick riders in as well.

What a loser.

The original whinger, I mean.

My thoughts exactly. Ridiculously butt-hurt.

Granted persistent KOM hunting is a little :o even more so if you're literally just targeting one person to **** them off but if it gets you that irate then you need to take a step back and chill out :p

Yep same. ToB has been directly through once and around the surround area a few times. Same with the local club too. They have a rider who is just a machine. No chance for me on the main climbs to get anywhere close :(

Might be able to target a few of the smaller ones around town though.

I doubt he really is targeting that guy specifically. More likely that guy has at some point basically scooped up a majority of the popular local segments. It's the same when I'm cycling back at the parents. A guy there seems to scoop up pretty much all the major roads (with good wind conditions)... so if I take one it's probably one of his but I wasn't targeting him. In general I'm rarely aware of exact segments. I'll just smash it up a hill or between two roads etc and there happens to be a segment.

Guy I was out with today is our local Strava man. He used to go out the same night to get a KOM back if someone got it that day, he does analyze segments fully and works out what speed to be doing where and attempts it when the wind is best.

We were only 3 and I was constantly on at him to ride two abreast and give the guy at the back/side shelter from the wind.

He'd ride up the road when I was sparkled, stop and wait until I caught up and then get going again. If you're that strong then sit on the front more of the time and look after each other.

He'd also get obliterated on an actual 'bundy' run or group of guys who know how to wheel about properly.

Targetting segments is weird. A mate of mine rides the same route I do separately from me quite often. He's got several segments quicker than me, but his overall average for the ride is waaaay lower....

That's pretty much the way of it really.

Get a KOM because you have been dictating the pace and giving it an almighty effort on the exact segment. It's when you're seeing stars looking at some guys hub for 4 miles at 26mph average and hit a climb that you see who the fastest at that point is. Won't be Mr Strava.

Talking of the TOB they took a few segments off him here too, he got them back.....

Your ride average will be faster by not going supra-threshold up short to moderate climbs. The time you save & recovery required is negated by travelling faster for every other part of the ride.

Had a grim head-cold since Tuesday night. More or less shook it now but safe to say the mats in my garage are looking colourful, more so than normal as I was on the TT too, suffocating from every angle

That feel when your nose is sore from being constantly blown & irritated and then the sweat hits it:

Look at the state of it in here, I vanish for 8-9 days to have a baby and you miss me! I'm touched! :D

Baby Harry arrived on the 28th at 7.48am weighing 8lbs 1oz. Baby and mummy are both doing well, Laura was amazing throughout and even more amazing was back wearing normal jeans within 6 days! :o

Harry is already back up to birth weight (only lost 4%) and doing well, feeds well and sleeps pretty good. We got 4 hours uninterrupted last night followed by another 3. We've got him pretty much figured out and in a semi routine, just trying to stick with it now as it's helping us to rest/live/eat! I think of all of us the one who's suffered the most is the dog, he's been amazing and alert every time there's a baby noise, even helping to wake us at night (if we don't immediately respond to a murmur). He's utterly shattered, but amazingly paternal and protective already.

I managed to jump on the bike yesterday to go grab some more baby swaddle blankets, first time in 7-8 days and it was hard work! Going to try and get on the turbo today and then try and schedule in a daily session before I'm back to work on the 12th. I hope you can survive without my weather reports until then... Although to be fair the weather has been pretty good here, warm sun & no real rain for a week or two. From someone mostly stuck inside on baby duties, I have the following advice: get out there and ride! :p

Anyone spotted any baby grows in pro team colours?! :D

Aldi bike camera light does seem to have some sort of incident protection. I tumbled this morning (stupidly put my left cleat on a wet wooden stump while stopping.. no grip!) and it made some beeps as soon as the bike went on its side. I'm guessing it's locked the file.

I got Wiggle to price match those yesterday. A nice set of tights beat the leg warmer summer short combo any day I think and it gets to a point in winter where you really want the extra thermal properties.

Last year I got a pair of Castelli Velocissimo tights and they've been great but I fancied an extra pair for this coming winter. Combined with some nice new Mavic goretex boots I'm not fearing the cold so much this winter!

Well mine arrived today from Wiggle. Shall give them a go this weekend. :D

I got some - quick run out today with them - they're pretty good, not high end - i have rivelo tights I'd say are a notch better. Pad feels decent tho.

Glad i paid £46, if I'd paid anywhere near full price I'd probably send them back. Well worth £46, probably worth £60.

Well, straight out of the bag, already I can see the Endura logos aren't 100% attached. But they seem to fit will, will only be sure once I've had a ride in them.

I imagine these are going to be very warm come the proper chilly weather, plus they've got a DWR finish. Can't complain for the money.
