Robot Wars returning to BBC2!

The usual thing, damaged robots, unable to fix them properly due to the stupid rules.

Really bored of these flipping robots. The spinning weapon robots are so much more fun to watch.

That said, it was fun watching the house robots getting owned.

What was more fun to watch, a robot flipping people out of the arena, taking on three house robots or a spinner breaking it's opponent and itself, leading to the most boring bout I've ever seen on robot wars where both just jerked back and forwards?

Most of them have just ended up damaging themselves and not working a lot of the time.

Spinners are potentially the best weapons, they just don't seem to be too well designed or implemented in this show. Some flipper robots are really boring and pointless but I liked Apollo, and the team seemed to be really enjoying themselves.

The house robots are incredibly lame, they don't seem to have been updated at all since Robot Wars was last on. In the past they were genuinely brutal robots that most competitors wouldn't go near, now they are pretty pathetic. I wouldn't be surprised if they get some power upgrades for next series.

I've always liked Dead Metal (the design and weapon) but it's so ineffective these days because most robots have thick armour plating. I remember a few unlucky bots being grabbed and cut open by the disc.. upgrade the saw and blade so that people fear it again.

The same could be said about Sgt. Bash too. The flamethrower was genuinely funny against the bots in the last wars. Particularly those with fur or flammable materials. Obviously, most people tend to go for steel which makes the weapon nothing more than a tickle :p

I think the problem is that they don't have a house robot capable of serious damage potential. Sir Killalot would be a monster if his "jaw's of life" arm closed faster than 0.00001mph and the lance was actually useful. Say what you want about Mr Psycho but that hammer was menacing and he had the ability to grab the competitors like toys (due to his size).

Most people flip or wreck Matilda and shunt, so they need to be scrapped or at least fitted with decent upgrades!

Matilda's flywheel is still pretty dangerous (see what it did in episode one) and they upgraded her tusks to be a good flipper rather than just a lifter.

In the end they want most of the battling to be done by the robots, you don't want someone getting nudged into the CPZ and then instantly being decimated by a house robot. It's tough finding a balance.

Been watching the new series and quite enjoying it tbh (a bit surprised as didn't think I would like it, as don't normally like Dara - but think the last couple of episodes he has been quite funny).

Not a fan of the knockout league format, as others have said it does seem a bit unfair if a robot is badly damaged early on, then still has to fight twice more.

Would arguably prefer a return to the mini games (e.g. football or the pinball) for the middle round, as would give a chance to get the house robots more involved, show more style/control, and would stop the last fight being a rerun of one of the league fights.

Well I thought that was possibly the most boring episode I've ever seen.

I've been watching the US Battlebots in parallel and I can honestly say Battlebots is on another level when it comes to entertainment and technical capability of the robots. Virtually all fights are a knock out and even the ones that aren't have been entertaining. I strongly recommend watching it, but skip all the annoying filler.

The arena is much bigger, no pit, better traction, more reliable robots in general, flame-based weapons allowed, flying drones with flame based weapons allowed (they are useless but it's funny when they crash and explode), much more destruction overall.

I'm most surprised that everything is very similar to the old show... have we not developed anything significantly new? House robots don't even have srimech... r u cereal?!

I think they thought that doubling their weight with help, sees not. :p People keep on asking about the apparent lack of quality of some of the robots and it's answered every week that they only had 3 months notice.

They probably never expected to get flipped :D. It was hilarious how easily they were owned by a robot made in a shed by 3 'entertainers'.

The house robots are far more passive this year, its probably down to the format, especially the head to heads. The producers will not want the house robots to annihilate someone so they cannot continue to the next match.

There has been a couple of times where Kilalot has had someone in his car but he has just dropped them outside of the CPZ rather than crushing them.

Really enjoyed that episode. Eruption was robbed; very glad Apollo beat Storm 2 in the end. Disappointed they didn't ever put their own spinner on.

Best show so far last one.
Really thought storm 2 was going to go through despite being the most boring robot in terms of entertainment per pound spent. Seriously that robot was reliable but had no ability to inflict damage.

So pleased apollo went through. Good fun, not experts, solid robot.
Wanted to see more of the pincer robot. I hate how many go out due to link failures! Its farcical that's.

There's no need for the house robots. They are no more destructive than before. They don't do anything, but probably can't due to nature of the fixing time.

Does anyone know what the wildcard robot for the final will be? Is it chosen from the competitors during the main contest, or someone given a pass? If it's chosen from the defeated robots, how is the choice made?

Been watching this series with my 6-year-old. We both loved episode 4, great fun, best so far.

Not many very good robots in this series (understand the time constraints on the build), but it does at least mean a good amount of destruction, as the crap ones fall to bits.

Format makes it a bit of a war of attrition. Not sure I'm too keen on that, but it does at least allow a second chance once you get past the initial 4-bot-rumble. I think I'd prefer more of a straight knockout and perhaps some sort of a repechage setup, though. Would need a seedings system to avoid losing good robots too early.
