Rome 2 : Total War

Im playing on patch 9 with Radious Total War mod and I think the game is a lot better. Im sure after its all patched up along with Radious final patch aswell this will be a great game.

It is a lot better - vanilla had enemy forces wandering around in circles outside y walled city. Patch 9 has reduced this problem greatly, but Radious has made them attack more aggressive. Really enjoying Rome 2 now. :D

Started my Roman Campaign today with patch 9 and Radious mod. Its been great. I started off taking the provinces just above me and the island just west of Roma. With the help of my spy who turned out to be really good at assassin work. Made the battles a lot easier with there veteran generals dead before the battle started;) I then quickly moved south (force march) and took the two provices which were owned by a minor faction, before carthage wanted to take it back. In the mean time I made some very expensive trade negotiations with Libya and Nova to be allies. This puts carthage sandwiched between my allies who are quite rich now thanks to my overly generous donation. This left me happy with the south covered so I have headed off north with my 5 armies to take on the barbarian horde. Im not too worried about them just yet as they haven't been that friendly towards each other and ive only seen a couple minor factions allied (confederate) towards each other. But its early days yet as im miles away from going into Germania so there could be a whole nest of roman hating barbarians in there.

I agree... it also annoys me how quick your generals and spys/champions die... its hardly worth upgrading them...

I have however install the 1 year per 2 turns mod from the workshop which works well (but you have to start a new game)

Yup.

I'm running a 12 turns per year mod, so my generals/agents live for a huge part of a campaign (I took 1/2 the may by the time my faction leader died) - but it felt a good pace, I had to make sure I kept an eye on it - but it worked great.

Playing with Radious mod also helps as it adds seasons - so with the 12 turns per year you get to play a few turns in each season (giving the game much greater depth) - the minor faction unlock is also pretty good.

I released another mod last night - Gladiator Expansion Pack (it's on workshop if you guys want to give it a try) - adds a load of Gladiator units to rome :).

I most certainly agree with the above comments, with the right mods & the most recent patches the game is really starting to get good - the thing is, the foundation of the game was always sound - just lots of silly mistakes made by the dev teams (which are getting fixed slowly but surely) - personally I can't play Shogun 2 any-more (as it's not worse than Rome 2)

Can you link me to that please mate? I would definately like to have a go at that :)

I'll pop a link on here when I get back from work (blocked here the steam workshop is :(! ).

Rome 2 modding is really fun, a bit awkward to use but once you get used to packfilemanager & the variant files/converting textures it's not that bad.

Cant find that mod for 12 turns per year... would be grateful if you can link me to it when you get home mate :)

Cheers,

Stelly

Does anyone have a good mod list for this now?

Interested in depth, more tpy, an overhaul like Radeous - and any other improvements.

I want to be able to play the game again, but not keep thinking 'I could do with that mod and this mod' and have to keep restarting.

I bought this from Steam for £15 glad I didn't pay more only into my second battle and the General keeps dying, it's a shame you don't get the option to allow the PC to decide if you win or lose, at least until I get used to it like in the older games. Do you get to build/expand your Cities or is it just endless battles?

I may try again but just a bit bored with it at the moment but some of these mods may help?

Maybe you could control your general so he doesn't die?

You're taking about 'endless battles' and you have played two?

That makes no sense.

Picked it up in the last days of the sale, I'm a big fan of the series but hadn't wanted to pay much for it because of the hugely negative comments however I've been really impressed. So far played around 50 turns of a campaign with Rome and the only tiny bug I had was with a siege battle and it didn't recognise one of my armies in the battle (but that could be me not fully understanding how the new land/sea split battles work.

Other than that tiny negative though it's great! The AI makes use of the new movement system to launch seaborne invasions and does so with valid armies (not just 8 catapults and a unit of peasants as used to happen in previous versions). I can run the game smoothly in Very High graphics and my PC is really nothing special, I was expecting to struggle along in low quality and was looking at my budget for a new graphics card.

Wished I hadn't waited so long to give it a go really.

I must say this game has come a long way since release. Why could it not have been like this at release!?! The game is silky smooth now with everything on maximum...even when fast forwarding a battle. I am pleased to see them STILL patching it.

Anyone have any recommended mods to offer?

Are you signed up for the latest beta for patch 14 in Steam? That's the big one, finally sorting out the siege AI it's a huge improvement even in beta!

Many use Radious total war mod but I read it can upset the unit balances quite a bit so I'm using mostly the same as Lionheart and it works well.
