Rome 2 : Total War

It's there for me. Unless they've taken it off now for an imminent full release, it's been up for exactly a week today so it's possible. I don't know about Caesar in gaul, I'm playing full campaign.

Personally I feel like the game is now in a pretty good state. Sure it lacks the immersion at times with the whole lack of a family tree and the in-faction politics are not amazing, but the faction to faction diplomacy actually works relatively well, you can build strong relationships with different factions and feel safe to not get stabbed in the back.

Patch 14 has sorted out the siege Ai, for both offensive and defensive. Also performance has once more increased with this patch and slow down occurs a bit on siege battles still, but no where near the level it was before.

If you can pick the game up for £15-£20, you will probably be happy.

There is a ton of mods available to polish the game, slap a 4 turns per year mod into the game and the music of Rome 1 mod as well, and things start to feel good.

Shame the Testudo formation still does not have shields on the sides though :(

I've been playing it again since patch 14. Actually really enjoying it. The camapign AI is much improved and the overall feel of the game. Battle AI is also better.

Feel like the game it should have been on launch finally. FPS are 100% better I had a battle against 3 galuish army's last night and the performance was very good.

Its no Rome Total Realism One. But very enjoyable and defiantly worth a play through or 3.

Frame rates have indeed got a lot better. The only real slow down I find now, and my CPU is weak compared to most, is in sieges when there is a lot buildings. I do not know if it is for the buildings or shadows or what but it is still a good amount of FPS.

It just runs smooth everywhere else, this is the only area I notice it drop down a bit but still easily playable and smooth enough.

Frame rates have been hugely improved. Alpha vegetation still produces a massive hit, but since release I am seeing around about a 10-20fps improvement. Loading times have significantly improved all round too.

I would say in its current state it is *nearly* as good as Shogun 2 now.

As others have said, wait for a sale and pick it up for around £15.

I am just waiting for the DLC to come down in price, it is slightly overpriced at the moment!

Can we use proper Anti Aliasing yet? I always hated that kind of blurry or smudged effect that FXAA give it. I play Napoleon Total was a lot still and although its a far older game it looks so much crisper to me.

It seems retailers never discount DLC that much. :(

However, the base game is currently available for £10.20 on gamesplanet.com. Think I'll go for it, even though I won't have my new build for a month or two!

Are you signed up for the latest beta for patch 14 in Steam? That's the big one, finally sorting out the siege AI it's a huge improvement even in beta!

Many use Radious total war mod but I read it can upset the unit balances quite a bit so I'm using mostly the same as Lionheart and it works well.

champLoo's Gold Unit Compilation
Four Turns Per Year Mod ( 4TPY )
Total War: Grand Campaign Map
Traits, Talents and Toadies: Character Overhaul Patch 14
Agent cards redone

Is this a good set of mods?

Thinking of trying some of them..

Only played for a short while after launch, and stopped. Tempted to get back into it after reading these last few posts?

It is a good list of mods...I am now using most of them.

The game is pretty polished now, there is no reason not to play - the battle AI is hugely improved, especially during sieges.

Worst bug ever in a game. The slow motion bug in some battles, its very rare but seems to happen on coastal battes with reinforcements.

Frameframe, camera and interface fine but the units move in slowmotion and the time goes down about 5 seconds to 1 second.

Had this on the third battle in a coop campaign with my pal. Totally ruined it for us.. CA have been aware of this since Empire It seems so I don't know what the hope is of getting it fixed :(
