Rome 2 : Total War

Yeah. I expected the whole "don't like it, don't buy it" type reply. Classy.

I really want to like it. That's the problem. MTW (2002) is one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. There is also afaik zero competition to TW. I have no choice.

Won't you at least admit that CA has had some QA issues over the years? Did you play RTW/M2TW/ETW at release? Did you not experience the crippling bugs in those games? The M2TW slowdown bug? The naval CTDs? The corrupted savegames? Are you optimistic that what we get in September will be stable and well balanced?

If you anticipated that response, then try this one.

Why whine 4 months in advance? why not wait and see?

Many developers have issues with games. To be honest, no I did not suffer crippling bugs with those games. I tend to wait for things to be ironed out, it seems sensible to me to wait. Early adoption is far more often than not, a mistake.

I'll probably make an exception and buy this on release though. I'm neither optimistic or pessimistic. I'll wait and see, instead of complaining, why not do the same?

Up until now I've always got the Total War games a month or two after release, and I've never had any problems.

That was always due to monetary issues though. This will be thr first time I can actually afford to pre-order (though not on steam lol) - However I think I will actually 'choose' to wait this time. Just to make sure I can enjoy it without too much worry :) It's not like there aren't plenty of others to keep me occupied in the mean time! haha

Exactly. You have to expect issues with new games, it's just the way things are, why stress out about it?

Let other people and the developer iron out the bugs for you, then buy the game a bit cheaper and finished.

I'm starting to wait for games until the GOTY version comes out, due to cheapness and the knowledge that the game should be patched and moddable to be a better game than Day 1.

However, with Rome 2, i don't think i can wait that long.

Day 1 bugs be damned!

I am really looking forward to some detailed information of the campaign map, hopefully the next gameplay reveal will be a 10-15 minute lets play type thing, or screenshots at the least.

I seem to remember one of the CA guys (Jack Lusted rings a bell) doing this prior to the Shogun 2 release, the first dozen turns or so as the Shimazu.

I am still trying to decide who to play as first, a good look at some actual campaign gameplay would make it a lot easier to decide.

For example, if the naval landing mechanic and sea zone of control mechanic look good, I quite fancy playing as Athens for the strong navy.

If the raiding/ambush side of things looks good, a faction like the Iceni would be interesting.

Other than that, I might have a quick game as Rome to learn the basics, but I am really keen to get involved in some MP campaigns early doors before everyone knows the game inside out. Learning and making costly mistakes in an ironman MP game is going to be great! :)

Ah, so I've noticed Rome 2 on Steam. Buy now, play September. Only £45.

Has it really come to this? :( Take a hike, CA.

Given the inevitable state it will be in on version 1.0 I will despair if anyone pre-purchases. I love the period and having not purchased Shogun 2 or Napoleon, I was ready to give CA another chance and go Day 1 on this. Not now.

Only if they ever do 'finish them'. That's always been my problem with CA. A couple of little patches that really don't do much, then adios. "Enjoy your game, that doesn't quite do what we said it would."

You can get it for around £30 at some places, think it went down to £25 on Zavvi for a day or so aswell. All come with the pre-order bonus.

I can understand everyone wanting to wait with the bugs in previous releases...I just don't have that much willpower. Rome was my absolute favourite.

I find it hilarious that people whinge about PC game prices on steam which can always be bought elsewhere for loads cheaper. I pre purchased Shogun 2 and Napoleon and they were both cracking games from the get go.

Yeah, it's pretty funny, why don't people shop around?

Shopping is a crucial life-skill these days, it really is.

I can't understand why people need to buy every game on release, I want to play FC3, I want to play Metro Last night and I want to play Bioshock Infinite, but no way am I paying a combined £120.

I'll get the lot for under £60.

I remember me and my dad playing Shogun together all those years back! Loved them all, but for me Medieval 2 was the last really enjoyable one for me. I have Shogun 2 but I have struggled to get into it. I preferred all the older UI for stuff rather than how it is since it changed. I just hope I can love this like I adored Rome.
