Rome 2 : Total War

The prices are quite high on this release but I've never had as much value from a game series than the total war games, I've owned every iteration from the original Shogun & have spent somewhere in the region of 100 + hours on each so I will be pre-ordering & I won't begrudge what I pay which is more than can be said for a lot of games now days.

I will hold out on pre-ordering this one, I hope that I do resist after doing just that with SC5 and feeling more than disappointed.
I never got into Shogun II, even though I bought the expansions, somehow that whole period in history does not do much for me as I know RTW did. So I do have great hopes for RTW II.

Has anyone seen any videos or read much about the campaign map..? I seem to spend more time there than I do on the battle field, and often that is where the game is won or lost for me.
Are there any videos showing the map and how the AI (hopefully improved) is making its choices etc...?

Does anyone know how moddable this game will be...? The last (according to the number of hosted mods at TWC) major one was Empire TW, after that one the numbers decreased significantly.

Whilst the eye candy and sound effects have been nice, in the few videos I have seen, it is the things like the AI, campaign map, and the ability to enjoy some great mods (like the SPQR one for RTW) which will give this game longevity, for me.

Looks fabulous, I must admit I heard about this about 16 months ago. The total War games has it's programming workshop in my town and they advertise for programmers. One of the adverts mentioned Rome 2, but was edited a couple of days later and Rome was removed.

Probably had loads of people calling them asking them about the game.

btw does anyone know if I preorder from somewhere else besides steam - will I still get the preorder bonuses?

Think they said regardless of where you preorder you get the greek pack, rainforest certainly has it in the pics for the item.

This is a carbon copy of my feelings. I like the looks of the CE and love the work of CA but £110 is a lot to risk after getting my fingers burnt with E:TW. Its a shame that is such an amazing game.

My feeling with the CE is it looks very nice, it's very expensive for what you get and because it doesn't actually give you anything extra for the game itself I can't see myself going for it.

Funnily enough, I prefer CE's that don't give you anything extra for the game itself - I hate feeling "blackmailed" into spending the extra, or pre-ordering, for some extra content that I think should be available to all (at the same price anyway).

I can see your point and to some extent I agree, although having said that the 'extra' content almost always ends up being released for everyone else later anyway.

But I'm just looking at the CE thinking, if I buy the standard version for around £30 then it's £80 for a board game, 3 dice, a model onager, a map and a card game, all of which I can live without for £80 and besides would you not be playing Rome when you got it rather than messing with that stuff?

Obviously if people think it's worth it then fair play to them and I hope they enjoy it.

Yeah, don't get me wrong - I wouldn't pay that much for the CE myself - it's crazy money. I would love the onager though :o
