Rome 2 : Total War

I went for it and pre-ordered, even though I'm not a massive RTS player. Played a lot of Medieval II (even if I wasn't good at it), and Company of Heroes on the uni games lab LAN, so I should be alright.. I hope. Read on Rock Paper Shotgun that the AI will be fiendishly difficult in this though!

I hope so.
When I first played Rome Total War I thought I was doing really well when I started beating the AI on hard - I was in for a shock when I started playing multiplayer lol

This should give players a bit of better training with the new mechanics :)

I'm tempted by this game a lot.
Used to play a lot of dare I say it Warrior Kings (i think, rts though), and enjoyed it.

On my list to get.

Also here is a link to a QA session on Rome 2 with one of the lead developers..

Thanks for that link. Some interesting points i wasn't aware of until now!

That fact armys can embark to cross rivers (rather than having to find a bridge in previous Total War games) will be interesting to see in action. I guess rivers will function more like they do in Civ5 for example.

I also wasnt aware about the lack of traditional "generals" for non-Roman factions; having war elephants as generals for certain factions will be imposing.

They've said they will allow it to be preloaded via Steam before launch. There no sign yet of any dates for when that will happen though.

Never played this series before, would a Civ player enjoy this?

I played a lot of the total war series before playing any Civs and I enjoy them both.

The campaign modes are quite similar to Civ, in the sense of capuring regions, research and development teching. You can choose to automate the battles, like Civ or fight them yourself controlling each legion / cohort.

Rome : Total War was amazing and if this is half as good it will still be worth a purchase.

EDIT: You can probably pick up others in the series quite cheaply now. I recommended Empire as a good starting point as it reasonably recent so the mechanics shouldn't be too different to Rome 2.

Wow, loving the look of this

Do you think my rig will run it ok, or does it need sharpening up anywhere for max settings?

From what I can gather it's not supposed to be a rig smasher like Crysis 3. I think your best bet is to try it - I have a similar system that's what I am doing. I'm pretty sure your card and mine (7850) are quite close in performance.
