Rome 2 : Total War

I have got this on pre-order, have played (and loved) all the TW games.

Has there been any word (officially or not) on a demo for this?

I played a lot of the total war series before playing any Civs and I enjoy them both.

The campaign modes are quite similar to Civ, in the sense of capuring regions, research and development teching. You can choose to automate the battles, like Civ or fight them yourself controlling each legion / cohort.

Rome : Total War was amazing and if this is half as good it will still be worth a purchase.

EDIT: You can probably pick up others in the series quite cheaply now. I recommended Empire as a good starting point as it reasonably recent so the mechanics shouldn't be too different to Rome 2.

Thanks, I really like the look of this game from the youtube vids I have seen. I think I will probably buy it.

Is Rome 2 still only a single core Game

Is this game still only opimised for a single core cpu?????

Well ive been playing fall of the Samurai for at least 100 hours and totally love the thick entrenched political, military, strategic elements the game offers, very polished and well thought out...But the game only uses single core performance envariably in most if not all situations. According to my resource monitor....

Just think of how much better this game could be if Creative Assembly had a fully optimised quad core/multithreaded optimised game code......

I hope Rome 2 is full multicore optimisation and brings forward a quantum leap in performance and graphics. We want faster load times, more detail on the units, bigger maps, better animations and exception sound (always a strong point in Total War Series)

The is so much untapped potential in this series and I cant wait for the new release......

Its already been said it will support dual/quad cores as well as SLI/Crossfire:)

It might support them but I'm not sure its optimized? Last i heard it was built off the same engine used for the previous Total War games, single core like dmferrett was referring to.

I might pre order it then, but are the three factions worth it? I'm sure shouting "This is Sparta" gets a bit boring eventually.

The game ships with 3 different 'cultures': Greco-Roman, Barbarian and Eastern.

They're all meant to have their own playstyle.

THe Greek States DLC is a fourth culture, so you're buying a new playstyle (whatever that actually means), and not just a re-skin of units and a smattering of specials.

That's what I wanted to know, I might pre order it then. Can anybody find the pc download for cheaper than GMG @ £29.99?

I've never been a fan of the naval warfare in the series so far, but this looks much more interesting! Looking forward to giving it a go :)
I'll still probably end up auto-resolving them all though haha
Saw that last night, looks a major improvement on the Shogun 2 naval battles (except fall of the samurai).

Love the more dynamic boarding actions & ramming - looks like they have improved it significantly.
