Rome 2 : Total War

All i can say is, one of my generals better be called maximus decimus meridius

I have been hugely dissapointed to find that none of my foreign veterans in Shogun 2 were called Nathan Algrin

I was going to upgrade soon, but I think I'll put my plans on hold and stick the money in the bank to make sure my PC is truly maxed up when this is released.

This is what i am doing.

If, as the lead designer says, they are trying to make it a really good first/third person experience with full physics for each soldier ,as well as facial animation e.t.c it is going to take an absolute beast of a machine to run i reckon.

1000's of fully animated (including faces), properly weighted soldiers plus ships on the same battlefield is going to be epic though.

I absolutely adored Rome it was probably one of the best TW games in my opinion - but only with the realism mod applied. I was just thinking recently about this. I haven't played a TW game in a long time and was wondering when the next Rome or Medieval were due out. I am looking forward to it, but I certainly wont be buying until a decent Realism mod appears. Unfortunately once the mod was applied I could not go back to the original game. It was so poor in comparison :(

I have been re-playing Napoleon Total War recently doing the coalition campaigns as the British & I have to say I'm enjoying it much more than I did on release, it's a fantastic game as they all have been even the much maligned Empire stands head and shoulders above most of its competitors IMO, these games never ceases to enthrall & entertain right from the original Shogun through all the iterations to today's Shogun 2 I owned them all, loved them all. Can't wait!

RTW is by far the best of the Total War series, they got so much right with that game and seemed to forget it in favor of 3D clunky slow armys with lots of awesome special effects in both Empire and Shogun total war (Ok it was less of an issue in Shogun but they have a clear direction away from the simplicity and genius of RTW).

I just couldn't bring myself to spend the kind of hours i had played in RTW with Empire, and sadly if RTW-2 turns out to be much same style im going to have issues falling in love with it the way i did with RTW for years on end.

I still find myself re-downloading RTW to my steam every 6 months or so for a quick bash.

Rome 2 total war specs ?

I recently read a site that was interviewing someone from total war design and he said that the specs are trying to keep same as shogun 2 total war is this correct ?

hope so as only build pc this year and dont want to have to spend much

will be great game
thanks Dean

No details yet, but I would think that if you build a good gaming PC now, it would have no trouble running Rome 2.

As long as you build along the lines of an i5 or above and a 6 series card, you should be fine. I don't think any major upgrades are due out by the games release date anyway.

They wont be using a newer engine than shogun 2. I was able to get a solid 30fps on shogun 2 maxed out with my 965 and one 5850, which doubled to 60fps when I added my second 5850. Anything you built this year will run Rome 2 no problem.

It has many many more units on screen than Shogun 2, each unit now has massively increased physics, especially in their face as they now have impressive, individual facial expressions. All that animation and all those extra millions of polygons to make all that possible, its going to take a lot more than Shogun 2 did.

All of that so your units can actually look scared, angry or in pain etc.

How useful, I'm sure we'll spend a lot of time staring at individual unit expressions.

Pretty sure they said it was a new engine. Looking forward to its release though, hopefully can get maximum'ish' settings

Just got back from Rezzed and saw the pre-alpha footage and it looks like you will need a beast of a machine to run it maxed out. It will be an epic game and its something I would wait to do an upgrade for.

A little worried that they will promise more then what they can handle and have a repeat of empire. Lets hope not :)
