Rome 2 : Total War

Sounds like they've taken it too far with Rome 2 but they can't really win; in the earlier total war games the AI would build a stack, if it lost it, it was out. People didn't like that because you basically had to win a handful of battles to win a campaign. So the AI started spamming stacks, now campaign take forever because 30-45 minute battles against stack spam just gets tedious after a while... so they went with making battles shorter.

It's always been resolved with modding, so it's not biggy, but ideally they should have that little realism check box at the start of the campaign also give the longer battle lengths to.

That's well said. However, this problem has been around for ages. People have moaned about for ages. So I don't get why they can't do something about it. They can't be bothered would be my guess. If it sells millions of copies then who cares basically.

Just had a peek at metacritic, ouch!

Yet people tell me I shouldn't judge till I've played it, yeah I really want to spend £30 to be completely let down. I don't trust the big reviews like IGN etc etc, but when that many people are complaining on metacritic I think it's fair to say the game in its current state is one big FAIL.

Yea mate, keep a tight hold of your money, cos it is abysmal. I've seen a lot of people saying they were gonna try for refunds from Steam.

It's not abysmal at all. As someone who didn't really follow the game(or pre-order it) to avoid the hype I can say that it is a decent game. Some people need to stop crying.

him unwinnable, get into a battle, set it at maximum speed, come back over 1 hour later and its advanced 1 minute, i have 8gb ram and a 3gb video card, memory cant be the issue

I've played every game since the original Shogun and this is by far the worst. Empire had an awful release but at least the mechanics weren't a total failure. There is no strategy and there are no tactics. The AI is a joke and does nothing yet the game still takes an age to process their turns. Battles are laughably quick with no sense of excitement, anticipation, fear or any other emotion other than anger and disappointment. Less said about the UI the better.

Apparently an update is due Friday and they hope to release weekly updates after that, but unless these can revamp the game's core mechanics completely it will remain a total fail.

So it sounds like SLI and crossfire are broken and might not even be able to be implemented? Might pick up a 7970, had enough of multicard solutions tbh.

It's one reason I doubt I'll ever go multi GPU, quite a few games seem to have issues with it. ARMA 3 doesn't utilize it properly either.

I'm now getting lots of issues with this game that seem to occur the longer you play. Tbh I'm not that bothered as this game is just not for me. It's a watered down version of the original and tbh a bit of a mess.

Woops, this is one I definitely WON'T be buying. Glad to have avoided this as I really enjoyed the original ROME:TW and shogun.

On a lighter note, has anyone else noticed the conversations that idle units have? It's noticeable if you zoom in on them during a battle.

Yeah, it's pretty sweet. Also, if you have your unit within about 60 meters or less of a hostile unit, but neither of you engage straight away, all of the men in both units shout and try and intimidate each other, it's pretty sweet. :p
