So guys, what's the problem with the battles then? Or, what did Rome 1 do right that Rome 2 isn't?
My gripe is that it seems to be about numbers and who can through the most in at once, in first rome if I managed to get into a tight spot with some hoplites I would make a defensive formation and hold my ground, in this game a shield/spear wall just gets pushed aside by shear numbers of peasants. Theres no chance of having a re-enactment of the famous 300.

Thing is, the battles would be fine if they just did a quick 1kb update buffing every units morale... Bet they won't though, they're a very lazy developer.
My thoughts exactly guys. I can't believe they have taken out the battlefield controls for forward back etc Its a huge step backwards in my books and I've played every total war since the original shogun.
It all looked so promising when I went to Rezzed for the unavailing last year
Any idea how well my system would work with this game? Works very well with all of the other Total War series...
System: E7400, GTX 260, 4gig ram...

Just my opinion so far
I'd agree that the battles aren't nearly as good as before. There used to be a great sense of achievement when you went into a battle hopelessly outnumbered with some quite specialised units and then pulled a narrow win out of the bag with some good tactical choices and use of the terrain.
I was dumbfounded last night when I tried to put my ladders against a wall and the troops insisted on trying to push them through a farmhouse and all it's associated fences. To their credit they totalled the farmhouse but suffered heavy losses as they did it with the archers pummelling them from atop the wall. Surely they should be able to walk around obvious bits of scenery?
I'm also disappointed that you can no longer chase down routing opposing troops to wipe out their army.
And where's the blood?
I must have auto resolved more battles last night than I did in the whole of Rome 1.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed playing the game but as time drags by with it I think I'll be playing it more for campaign map than the fighting unless it's fixed which kind of defeats the purpose.
