Rome 2 : Total War

I have always struggled to play TW games for long periods of time so I finished for the evening and came here to have a friendly conversation about how people are finding the game. Is that okay with you?

Sadly when I came here I just found the thread cluttered with "DO NOT BUY. ITS RUBBISH" posted over and over again. Rather difficult to have any sort of conversation about how people's campaigns and whatnot are going when the thread is being spammed to high hell by haters..

Well why dont you go and talk to people on TW Center or the official total war forums....oh wait you cant because those are filled with people complaiing about the game and the performance.....funny that.

Very tempted to pick a copy up; but with GTA V only 12 days away I'm not sure.

How well would it run on my system?

Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz
Microsoft Windows 8 64-Bit
Corsair Hydro H70 Core CPU Watercooler
Samsung 256GB SSD 840 PRO
KFA2 GeForce GTX 660 2048MB GDDR5
MSI Z77IA-E53 Intel Z77
Kingston HyperX Blu 16GB DDR3
BitFenix Prodigy 'Tiger' Mini-ITX Cube Case - Orange/Black
Corsair Builder Series CX 600w Modular
Pioneer BDC-207DBK 8x BluRay ROM / DVDRW

I've pre-ordered but mainly for the DLC - I haven't tried playing yet.

I know how Total War games go on release, so I'll wait it out a bit!

Exactly. The number of people complaining is minute. CA haven't sat silently; they've been very active in trying to help those having issues. Which is more than most devs do

Yeah, they are apparently going to be releasing large content patches every week too, so fingers crossed.

Have just given this another whirl, and as suggested way back in the thread I've installed DirectX from the redist folder in the main Rome directory and performance has shot up, all stuttering has gone and the game looks a tiny bit better. FPS still takes some pretty big hits when zoomed in but I only zoom in if theres nothing to micromanage and fancy watching the battle animations (they are quite impressive, but not as impressive as Shogun 2's).

Should run fine as long as you manually install the DirectX that is in the main directory, its CPU dependant and yours is good.

PS: Is GTA V on PC?

Played another 40 mins, enjoying it but then the diplomacy tab crashed me into a window with no selections. Managed to get back to the map, but couldnt do anything because no icons were there, just diplomacy open with heads in each corner and no options. Hammered the keys and gave up. Gonna give this a week

How do you open a trade route with another faction? Have started as Sparta, but when I go into diplomacy and try to look for any trade partner, it just tells me we cant open a trade route.

Is there a technology I have to learn yet, or a building I have to build.

Other than that, really enjoying it, although the battle speed does seem quite fast

ok guys i have just tried something which really helped me. With people with a lot of ram in their systems, 8 gig +, try disabling your page file and restarting your computer and rebooting the game. game feels 500% more responsive

Are you at war with epirus and athens? You either need to be connected via land border or have a spare trade route through a port I think, that could be your problem.

I have the collectors edition ordered for PS3, and as far as I know the PC version is yet to be announced.

Long wait ahead then. :(

Now the performance issues are gone, I'm really getting stuck into the game and it's quite fun, I've seen quite a few huge stacks on the campaign map and had to run from them, looking forward to some big battles because the unit size in this is loads bigger than Shogun 2, there are like 160 soldiers per unit compared to Shogun 2's 80 or 100. I think that's where the huge feelings of the battles came from in the pre-release footage, the sheer number of men in each unit.

god this is what happens when th money men come sniffing for profit, more and more revenue streams, more and more content you have to buy, actually ****es me of a lot.

I'm I missing something here, isn't there meant to be a cinematic camera , as when j enter battles I don't get to see the action, I can zoom in using z x or wheel scroll, but its not like what I've seen in some screenshots.

where is the option for this ?

Are buildings like shrines province wide or city only? Got one city out of the 4 as my troop producer and was gonna spread the troop bonuses around the province if this were the case. If not I'm gonna have to rejig everything I think.

If it says you can't then you can't. It's that simple.

After owning every title in the series I think his will be one of the best once the bugs have been fixed and the mods arrive. There is a lot of potential and replayability here with the amount of factions and units available, most I can imagine will be made playable with various mods and will have there own unique unt trees no doubt.

Total war since rome 1 has always been about the mods for me and I usually only play through vanilla once or twice.

I am personally looking forward to darth mod with 300-400 man units and the battle speeds reduced similair to his shogun 2 mod.

In the long term another europa barborum or rtr would be immense.

Not worried at all about current performance as it will improve. I do miss the blood splatter dlc though.
