rooney's red card incident (video clip)

Yeah i am saying Ronaldo is a better player than Rooney. I believe that Rooney is rated way to high and has never done much for england to shout about.

He is nothing on shearer or any other old england forwards. Ronaldo is very skillfull and just becuase he got on your nerves with his 'attitude' it doesn't make him a bad footballer.

I never said he was a bad footballer... but he is overrated, all his show boating, step over step over, often just wastes time, whilst the opposition have time to get men back.. as gilly said, anyone with some sort of football minded brain will tell you rooney is a better player than ronaldo.

Brazil in 2002 was the better team?
Is that a question?

If so my answer is no. It was a closely competed game and I don't believe either side was clearly the better team. We were beaten by a fluke, that was the only difference between the 2 sides.

funny to see the english posters here being so biased. Rooney stamped on Carvalho's nuts for heavens sake!!

say a Portugese player did the same on an english player, don't you think any other english player would have just done just the SAME? ie; going up to the ref

the same with divers, I see everyone being so furious towards divers from the teams england are playing, but you all seem to forget that Owen, Gerrard, Lampard etc have all dived before as well

cut down on the hypocrisy lads, please!

Oh wait, you were being serious.

Yeah i think i explained why. I think Ronaldo played lots better than Rooney did for England last night and its not the only game where Ronaldo's skills have been more impressive than Rooney's. I reckon theres a massive Rooney hype and everyone expected him to carry England to the finals.

There's varying reasons for that. If you're being serious I'll take the time to explain them but if not... well, it'd be a waste of time.

I thought they were a better team, but you are entitled to your opinion.

Ok now back to the point, does Rooney and other English players exhibit similar behaviour by going up to the ref and shouting to complain and also get people of?

Yes they do and Rooney is the worst because he swears a lot which is bad for all the kids who watch it and idolise him.

Also, is this generally the behaviour of most teams in the premiership to run up and crowd the ref to get people sent off?

They tried to get rid of it at the end of the season by fining chelsea and also refs giving cards to the players. But this is where ronaldo plays and this is where he learns his game.

That type of behaviour happens week in and week out it is part of our own game in this country.

I don't agree with it but it happens and I dont think he should be blamed for it solely

You really do have no clue about football. Rooney was a lone striker, hence he got pretty much NO good balls, everything was over the top, long balls, and when you have a lone striker, against a back 4, hes never going to be able to do much. Ronaldo, also had the advantage of playing against a team with 10 men for much of the second half, so please, learn some more about football, then we can have a discussion.

Na im not taking any of you die hard England fans serious, i couldn't careless who won. I just think all the England fans look at the match bias and can't see it from the other perspective.
I'm not being biased and I was being serious. I wouldn't mind explaining things to you if you're not quite up on your footy knowledge, etc.

Difficult to offer without sounding condescending, but to have such an opinion sounds rather naive IMO.

anyone got a video of ronaldo headbutting rooney as i have not seen it yet.

Ive looked for it but can't find it on the internet. Saw it on BBC though, they showed it a few times, half time and after the game I think.

As for Ronaldo, no one here knows what he said to the ref. He could have said "that's a foul" or "that's a red"

Why did he need to say to the ref "that's a foul" when the ref was right on top of the incident and had already blown his whistle?

Gilly what are your views on my comments, would like to know?

This is premiership behaviour, what comes around goes around basically?
I think telling a player you're going to get them sent off and doing all of it with preconceived ideas is pretty much unheard of in our game. As is headbutting (though it could be argued that Ronaldo was simply following the example of his country's captain).

manyoo and Arsenal used to hound the ref, but I've not really seen that for some time now. Since Keown, Vieira and Keane went out of the English game as it happens.

No, agreed there are more players than just ronaldo that go up to the ref, but for a start, he went up to rooney, muttering comments in his ear at the start of the game (apprently about getting him sent off) then headbutts him... havn't seen that in the premiership for a while, if ever, plus winking over at the bench or manager after rooney was sent off, this all implies that his actions were premedidated, whereas player running up to the ref after bad challenges are more an action of the moment, concern for their own teammate most of the time.

Firstly although you presume i am not up of my footy knowledge i have played in the youth teams of 2 professional clubs, i watch a lot of football and know the rules. Just becuase i have a different opinion than you it doesn't mean im clueless, i just look at the game from a different perspective and im not bias because my country lost.
