rooney's red card incident (video clip)

anyone got a video of ronaldo headbutting rooney as i have not seen it yet.

Calling it a headbutt is a bit extreme, he went up behind Rooney before kick off and placed his forehead on the back of Rooney's head and said something, he did not butt him, nothing much in it the BBC pundits decided it was not a malicious thing at the time, but that might have changed now :p

The ref is covering his back, by saying he was sent off for the stamp, because at the time of the incident the ref was not even going to book rooney! He sent him off for the push, so obvious in my mind. And the headbutt, or whatever you want to call it, that was by no means friendly.

Temper like that? Its the world cup, he had no support up front, obviously tempers are going to be high, his wasn't the only one.

Never saw it before and didn't look friendly at all...

Similar behaviour was done by turkey to Beckham

Rooney needs to grow up and learn to take things on the chin if he ever wants to win things

Firstly although you presume i am not up of my footy knowledge i have played in the youth teams of 2 professional clubs, i watch a lot of football and know the rules. Just becuase i have a different opinion than you it doesn't mean im clueless, i just look at the game from a different perspective and im not bias because my country lost.
I assumed you were 'clueless' (your word not mine) because of the opinion you had. You're the only person that professes to know about footy that I've ever encountered that had that opinion. The only people I could see having that opinion would be Portuguese.

I'm not being bias (sic).

This montage in the paper made me laugh, hopefully it will cheer some people up.

headbutt and chat in the ear is clearly friendly. do you really think rooney would have let ronaldo chatting him up offensive stuff in his ear and then even allow giving him a little headbutt? rooney would have gone '**** you ****' , he does this week in, week out in the prem

Clearly friendly? Have to disagree. Looks very unfriendly to me, and looks as if rooney is trying to control his temper at that stage, well played to him not reacting.

I was going to generalize about why the people who are so angry with Ronaldo are so,but then maybe others have differing reasons than me,so i'll just stick to my own reasons :-
Portugal had targetted Rooney before the match as the one player they could force a reaction from,i don't have a problem with that tbh,its up to Rooney to control himself.
Where the problem lies is that his own teammate was the lead instigator in it,from before kickoff until the second the card was shown. He was so pleased with the job he had done he made sure he got recognition for the job with that wink to his bench - which was the reason Beckham got so worked up,cos he had a ringside view.

If it had been ANY other Portugal player that had done that to Rooney i'd have whinged about it of course, for his own club teammate to do that to him tho is despicable.

Country before club fine,a given,not a problem.
Getting in a fight with a clubmate in the heat of the game, not so clever, but still not a problem,**** happens
Planning to stitch up a clubmate before a ball is kicked - complete and utter scumbag

I hope Rooney is good to his word too (if he has actually said it ) and refuses to play with him again,I can't really see how he could play with him again?

And yet you see people ragging on rooney for losing his temper...

The referee's decision was just plain ridiculous. If he was going to give a straight red for that push, yet completely miss out on countless yellows deserved throughout the game? Especially given the ease of which they've been given out this tournament.

It would be nice to at least some consistency.

And Ronaldo, I think that wink says it all.
Cheeky *******

Why did he need to say to the ref "that's a foul" when the ref was right on top of the incident and had already blown his whistle?

Thats the point i was going to make. There's absolutely no chance that Ronaldo was there saying "C'mon ref that was a foul" -- play had been stopped for a good few seconds before her even got there. Therefore the only business Ronaldo and Petit (?) would have had there would to try and get him carded. That in itself is absolutely disgusting, i dont care if "English players do it was well" it should be completely ruled out of the game altogether.

IMO Rooney was spinning around and didnt stamp on purpose. I'd expect he was trying to change his footing to get away with the ball. He'd just been pulled around by two Portugese players and i'm sure he was still looking at the ball when he 'stamped'.

As for the push, there was nothing in it. I guess he could have got a yellow for it -- but it was hardly malicious, he just saw what Ronaldo was trying to do (or perhaps heard?) and was showing/telling him it was none of his business and to get out of the refs face. Quite rightly so.

we can argue all we want about Ronaldo's possible bad sportmanship (going up to the ref) etc, but you all seem to forgot that NONE of this would have happened if Rooney had controlled his temper and didn't stamp on Carvalho's nuts. england would probably have been awarded the fault, continued with 11 men and probably would have won against portugal.

conclusion: rooney is at fault for everything

he's a great player and i do admire his football skills, his work-rate etc, but he deffo needs to go on some sort of anger management program and work on his attidude on the pitch

We'd probably all accept that if there had actually been a stamp.
