point off relegation just over a year before he took over.

PS read up on what he did at Blackburn, a team almost relegated he took them over got them into, yup, the uefa cup(maybe you should realise you have a manager who has a habit of getting anyone into the uefa cup, no matter how crap the team).

Then you'll realise he was fired after the second season went badly, Hendry left, lots of injuries and his star buy turned into a flop, who 13 years later is still going strong at Bolton, calld Kevin Davies, so he actually wasn't wrong about him.

SO he actually did really well at Blackburn.

I've just realised who I'm quoting so I won't go in depth but at Blackburn he took over a side where the majority of the side were Premiership winners but had been performing badly under Shearer (Ray Harford), he made them play below their potential but better than they had the previous season to get a UEFA cup place whilst ****ing off the core of the squad and forcing them out of the club, leaving them facing relegation.

I'm not sure you'll find a Rovers fan who was around in the 90's who had much good to say about him. I can't remember a single player he signed who was a success at the club.

Hmm,, seems the Hodgson bashing has stopped since the Chelsea game...

...until the next loss/poor performance that is :p

I can't speak for others but I'm not anti-Hodgson. I don't dislike him nor do I think he's a bad manager per se. I simply don't believe he's suited to managing Liverpool.

His mentality, selections and tactics are far too negative, although that's improved slighly. His approach in the transfer market (throughout his career) is short sighted, geared towards a club focused on survival; buying older, experienced players who will come in a do a job straight away. But my main criticism of him him since taking over is his lack of understanding of Liverpool FC and it's supporters; every other press-conference he gives, he puts his foot in it.

I made it clear when he took over that I didn't think he was the right man for the job, but equally I said that with the squad he inherited we should still be capable of competing for a CL spot, especially given the fact that we don't have the CL to concentrate on this year. So beating Chelsea at home and being 9th in the League isn't some sort of great achievement some people are making it out to be.

My opinon on Hodgson isn't going to change overnight but unlike some 'supporters', you'll never hear me saying I hope we lose so that he gets the sack. I hope we carry on winnining and he proves me wrong but ultimately I think he'll be gone by the summer.

I've been one his harshest critics but his mentality has certainly changed for the better since the Everton defeat.

I think he realised the little league attitude he brought with him from Fulham wasn't appreciated and the tactics that served him so well for 35 years weren't working so he's changed them. The defence are playing higher up the pitch, the midfield are pressing harder and we're passing it around more.

I fully expect him to revert back to type if he's given the chance to buy his type of player in January so for that reason, along with thinking he's too old and not really rating him, I still want someone else but I've changed my opinion that he's a senile old clown, until the next defeat that is :p

That pretty much covers my thoughts on it.

Baz and OK have summed it up nicely. There's nothing more to say - just wait and see how it plays out.

I agree that he won't be the manager next season.

I'm under the impression the previous manager turned them into a premiership winning side to a just above relegation side with an embarassing champs league campaign, the following season 10 games in Blackburn were rock bottom, barely avoided relegation, following summer Roy took over and got them into the Uefa cup in 6th.

You're completely ignoring the fact that blackburn + Shearer and a fit Sutton = champions, and at the end of the season Shearer left and Sutton spent the next 2 years crap, Sutton managed to score 18 goals under Roy when Blackburn did okay again, then he got injured and scored 3 whole goals, the following season he scored 1 goal for Chelsea.

He bought a single big price striker to try and get goals back, Kevin Davies, who was an epic failure(but since clearly hasn't been).

I can't find a list of who the squad in 94 vs squad in 98 was, but lots of places list that the team had terrible injury problems.

Two years at Blackburn, one incredibly successful, one injury laden, Kevin Davies failing, 3 months in fired, bad 1/4 of a season, I wouldn't call that terrible, nor good.

You've also ignored that he didn't fail at Udinese, was actually successful at Inter, and almost all the other clubs listed.

Shearer and Sutton scored 50 goals between them in the title winning season, between them for Blackburn in 98 when Hodgeson was fired, they scored 3, because Shearer wasn't there and Sutton was an injured reck of a player, you don't think Fergie, Mourinho, anyone else might struggle to win the title with 50 goals missing?

How do you think Utd would do without all of Ronaldo's and Rooney's goal in their treble year, wouldn't have made a difference?

Hmm, I think the stat means both of their goals and assists, It think they scored 34/15 in the league

So, i wanted him gone when we beat Chelsea, and i still want him gone now!
Useless tactics. Not fit for the club, not even fit for the PL on current form. Gimmie one of the newly promoted teams managers anyday over this joke.

As i posted in the other thread:
The coms on my ..ahem..viewing method just highlighted something.
Carra and Stevie told Torres to go with the rest of the team to applaud the away support, he basically told them to <swear> off, refused to speak to or shake Roys hand and stormed down the tunnel.
Reina did something similar.

Cant blame them.

Or ferguson's spending. Despite the facts. It seems it wasn't appreciably different from looking at it. Well it's up to whomever what they want to believe but I think we can all laugh in the face of the any fan on here who talks about 'the Liverpool way' seems that times long gone.

Since this thread doesn't look like it's going away any time soon, can a mod please fix the spelling of Roy Hodgson? It's seriously upsetting me. :o

That term encapsulated more than that. And to answer your question it certainly seems to have gone missing at ancient for te last 18 months.

18 months? We didn't have a problem keeping the ball and passing it around last season nor did we have a problem attacking teams. We simply didn't score enough goals.
