Sounds utterly ridiculous! My first thought was that some employee has found out what's inside and had it off, using the battery excuse to cover their tracks and claim it's been destroyed. I then felt a little guilty for assuming such a negative thing, but then saw that others had thought the same :p!

I look forward to seeing how this pans out, wouldn't be surprised though if either RM find a way of proving you were in violation, or reimburse you but never punish whoever is responsible, leaving it open to happen again...!

To be fair to him, his original post was last night and I did a small necro this morning when I saw it!

Hand held games consoles
Remote controls
Even batteries them selves

Have sent and received all this

If I didn't get resolution I'd probably take matters into my own hands

Completely out of order

Also take to the social networks and hash tag and @tag them where possible. Negative publicity like this will see to a swift resolution.

If it is really destroyed then they owe you £££ for new camera gear. I've never seen a label on a box stating it contains a hazard because a camera or device had a battery not attached to it (new items never have batteries attached to the device anyway).

If u sell camera worth over 1k then use parcelforce which is cheaper than royal mail.. i never send royal mail if value over £200 or more usual parcelforce for safe delivery, i sold nikon d5000 package and send parcelforce 48 for just 17.99 that cheaper one... i used to m9be mailroom for univerisity for 15 years.. know all mail system so if any value is high dont send royal mail

I really doubt Royal mail have the facilities to safely destroy a battery. Destroying a battery will just make it more dangerous and they are disposed off by specialist company's.

Something is not right with this. I would bet that someone has pinched your camera and Royal mail are trying to cover it up.

I reckon it was damaged and they were able to see what was in it and have pulled this stunt to cover their arses. There's no way they could have known unless the sender told them and in which they have accepted the risk and should pay the compensation.
