The last of us talked about above, now that I am on a 4090 from a 3080 ti it's pretty clear the engine still needs serious optimisation for higher end hardware.

What I have observed playing today:

1: The game still has random fps dips, it's not as big a deal as what people on lower end CPUs might face though, the CPU use on my 12700KF can reach 77%, which is only a few % shy of the GPU use when DLSS is enabled on the 4090. DLSS off = 99% GPU use.

2: DLSS on vs off makes zero difference to average fps which sits constantly around the 90-100fps mark. The engine just doesn't seem to account for higher end hardware. What you do get with higher end HW is brute force, it just brute forces its way through any optimisation quirks.

Still they fixed most of the major issues like mouse panning stutter and crashes, so there is that.

Here's what it plays like for me at 3440x1440 on the 4090:

Given that my 3080 Ti was getting around the same fps in this game with the same settings, I'm gonna say a 4070 is going to be exactly the same here lmaio.

Oof..... one does wonder, or maybe AMD really have lost their bottle, upsetting Intel couldn't have been any more daunting than taking on Nvidia.

At least do it with the 7800XT or 7700XT, which ever is likely to be most popular, 7700XT 16GB equivalent to RTX 4060Ti, $379, so what if that's low margin, so long as you're still making a small profit on them and make sure its in plenty supply.

Make sure that if Nvidia want to keep your marketshare depressed its going to hurt for them too, Intel are skint, they are out of money, AMD, you did that to them, you made them fight you and they lost, frankly.

If you want to pick another fight we will see it and we've got your back...
What you say is all very well and good, but it fails to take one key point into account.

Nvidia are sure as hell no Intel...

They know how to execute, they have better engineers and they HATE to lose!

Amd sure did a good job fighting Intel, but Intel was Intel's own biggest enemy, and did most of the damage to themselves, AMD just had to finsh them off.

Also, AMD won the CPU battle, no drivers, software suites to mention. Gaming GPU's are a much more complex job to get right, since its not just the engineering, its everything else that has to go along with that to make the games run well, along with other technologies, such as DLSS and creator features...

Like I said, Nvidia ain't no Intel, not even in Intel's prime do they compare.

I can't argue with any of that, but they must at least give it their best try.

Some of the factors as to why the card may not be selling well could be due to the price hike versus the last gen and the small performance bump. The NVIDIA GeForce 70-class GPUs have historically been around as fast as the last-gen flagship however, the RTX 4070 was the smallest performance jump over its 80-class predecessor. The RTX 3070 on the other hand retailed at $499 US and was able to be on par or ahead of the RTX 2080 Ti.

Haha, meanwhile, Nvidia sitting there in the boardroom meeting wondering why on earth the 4070 isn't selling, throwing ideas around a whiteboard

So you are saying all that extra vram did not fix all the issues and make the game smooth and silky? Who would have thought? :D
