RTX 4070 12GB, is it Worth it?

The customer base voted with its wallet with the 20 series and the sales were atrocious in comparison to the 10 series and before. This is why the 1060 and 1070 are still amongst the most used cards in the steam gpu charts. The 20 series poor sales was the reason Nv priced the 30 series more sensibly and if it was not for the pandemic, global supply chain issues and idiot miners we would have all been better off.

I hope the consumers are voting with their spending choices and the 40 series sell really poorly. Just because people on this forum have 4090s 7900s etc etc does not mean the new gpus are selling well across the entire market. Will have to wait for reliable sales figures to come out of somewhere for that info.

So you haz a feeling the 5000 series will be cheaper? :D

I love the way these AIB's always seem so optimistic....

"GOOD NEWS, THE LATEST 30% OVER PRICED GPU IS OUT, HERE IS A WHITE ONE THAT WILL GO YELLOW IN 6 MONTHS"

Just running some numbers on it.

The 4070Ti has 30% more cores than the 4070 and its clocked 5% higher, so it 35% less GPU.

According to TPU the 4070Ti is 16% faster than the 3080.

I almost bought one at the high street retailer that sells Tandooris as had £880 voucher kicking over and they price matched, but if it was my own money to spend anywhere then it wouldn’t be on this card. It’s a good product, very very too expensive for what it is and come on nvidia stop ******** on your customers with limited VRAM. 7900XT is a better value at this price range and that’s really bad value. 7900XT at £700 and 4070 Ti at £750 feels about right. You can buy a PS5 for MSRP now.

Always check you know how numbers work before running numbers :p

If the 4070ti has 30% more cores, and they're running 5% faster, it's reasonable to assume (if no other bottlenecks) it's a 35% faster card. Which means the the 4070 is 26% less fast than the 4070ti ;)

I was very careful not to say how fast it would be, shaders and clock speeds never scale 1:1, so i don't don't think its right to say "26% less fast"

Saying it was 35% less GPU was clearly a mistake. But i didn't say anything about its performance, you did that :P

there are 4070 with single 1x8pin/2x8pin ~ 200w and 12vhpwr ~ 215w

HW Unboxed reckons $550-$600 for the RTX 4070. Sounds okay to me.

An extra $50-$100 for many third party models would hardly be a shock.

The RTX 3070 TI launch MSRP was $600 so anything more than that isn't going to be well received.

4070 vs 3080 Ti? From the standpoint of DLSS3 and tech like SER of course, looks like if DLSS is anything to go by, then path traced updates are going to be the next big thing so the power of a 3080 Ti with the tech utilising SER and the like would be a nice little boost for future games for those with no interest in 4K gaming but 3440x1440.

I guess we will know how good it all is once Cyberpunk's RT Overdrive update is out and we see the performance numbers.

Edit*

I think the pricing problems we're seeing are still very much because of the pricing of last generation cards still being sold now.

It's a problem that won't go away until almost all the stock from these generations has been depleted. So, it's best to lower expectations until that happens. It looks like there are still some mid tier RTX 3000 series Nvidia cards to sell, but the problem appears to be larger on the AMD side (for the US market). So, an imminent launch (April) of Navi32 cards doesn't seem that likely.

Prices of the RX 6800 XT are still ~£580-£600 in the UK, it must be affecting pricing of the RX 7900 series.

If its faster than a 3080 then expect £700, if its slower then expect £600.

They are both as bad. New cards are priced high to keep last get high, this has been known for months now. Jensen said as much and AMD have just followed suit and witheld stock etc.

What they dont seem to realise is that old stock is going to be sitting on shelves at those prices and seems to be the case. I certainly dont want two year old tech for pretty much MSRP. I'd rather wait and play through my back catalogue of games

30% more cores and 5% faster clock is not 35% faster, the extra cores are also running 5% faster, 130% x 5% is 36.5% ;)

Yup, well I imagine the plan will be sell off the previous generation stock in sales, soon.

Tend to agree that playing games that aren't too intensive graphically is a good option whenever the hardware can't keep up. I've been playing Stellaris quite a bit over the last couple of months.

At least we know it's going to be have a reasonable TDP, because it looks like the power supply requirement for the RTX 4070 is 600w (about the same as the RTX 4070 TI?).
