RTX 4070 12GB, is it Worth it?

Scalping aside, the 3060 Ti and 3080 were seen as great value cards last gen - this gen the only 'good' (?) value Nvidia card is *still* the 4090 - everything else is a mix of being overpriced and/or underspecced.
The RTX 4080 is better and cheaper than any high end cards from the last generation (3090 and the 3090 TI). The production rate seems to be poor (not seeing many in stock), which is why the price is high, for this card and the tier below it.

But a much better card than comparatively priced products from previous generations like the RTX 2080 TI (around 100% performance improvement at 4K).

So it should be though and at a better price. Even acknowledging things are more expensive that doesn't excuse nVidia's mix of shrinkflation and pushing up prices.

Well, the only way prices will improve is if they can produce a lot more (or a very similar product).

It's quite possible that there just isn't enough demand.

The 4090 will never seem worth the price though, particularly when the TI is released.

They can produce as many as they want currently, just they are deliberately drip feeding some models so the FOMO crowd jumps in at any price they place on them.

There is no shortages now unless they are planned ones to keep prices inflated.

No one denies that the 4080 is a good card, but there is no way in hell that NVIDIA can justify a 70% price increase over the previous generation.

Don't forget, the only reason the 30 series was so expensive on the street is because it was scalped to death.

Where do you live if they are out of stock? They have never once been out of stock where I live.

Lets assume they could scale up production of the 4080 - presumably that would accompany price drops, creating more pressure on the top product, the RTX 4090 (which has no competition from AMD).

Nvidia always has a flagship card that they intend to set the price as high as possible for. producing more 4080s would likely mean price drops for the 4090.

Maybe that will change when the 4090 TI releases.

Sigh. Any idea which are likely to be the best ones available at the MSRP?

Other half only uses Nvidia and plays at 1080p, so while this is expensive and underwhelming, it's probably the only real option if I want to upgrade her 3060TI.

I've never had a problem with Palit personally and usually at or close to MSRP, used them for most of my secondary builds and the GTX1070 in my primary.
