If you are only buying a GPU for the new build as an interim towards getting a 5090, Id suggest just get a used Nvidia card to tide you over, that way when you go to sell it, its probably going to lose far less value than a brand new card today thats likely to face a price drop soon anyways to shift them in numbers...Am i mad or sensible. i wanted to get the latest and greatest but have been pretty down hearted with the Nvidia GPUs. i've not built a new PC in ten years and i need a new rig. i have been debating which to get. should i get a 4080 / 4090. i do a lot of 3d work so i finally decided on going with a 7800X3d + a 4090 with a AM5 x670 mobo and 64gb or ram. But, now the 4070 is out i could maybe not buy the 4090, get a 4070 with all the latest other hardware and wait for the 5000 series and replace then and sell the 4070. the build is currently at about £3.3k but getting a 4070 puts it at about 2k and would save me £1,150.99 that i could put to a PTX 5090 / PTX 5080. Which will no doubt have better DP 2.0 connectors for future prooifing.
so Am i mad or cunning as a fox, who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University?
