The top Volta maybe eye watering expensive, but how much will the SKU be that comfortably beats a V64 in performance/efficiency/price ? it will only possibly need to be a 1160 or maybe a 1170.

If that were true then the 1060 should have beaten the top end AMD FuryX but it doesn't. If past releases are an indication, the Volta 1150 will probably only barely catch up to the current 1060.

I'd say recent rather than past, as in the past that has happened in that X60 cards end up performing as well as last gens X80 card.
 
Well a 1060 is roughly 980 performance

If that performance differential is continued then an 1160 will match a 1080/Vega 64.

I expect an 1170 to match an overclocked 1080ti and the 1180 to add a bit more again, probably 15-20%.
 
Sorry, I think I've missed something - has there actually been any indication that Volta is going to be a massive leap over Pascal?

The statements that the Volta equivalent of the 1050, or indeed the "lowest" Volta card (1030 replacement?) will match or beat the current Vega cards, even the Vega 56 seem... well, a little hard to believe.

not necessarily we usually get small steps forward, I expect someone thought we needed a big bump in speed to boost sales... I bet next step is going to be minor gains

I suppose it's anyone's guess really!

Whether Nvidia feel they only now need to compete with themselves (but like intel did in incremental steps or whether they want to bury Vega but in its current form I doubt they see it as serious competition.
 
1070's are going to have to drop in price right? Otherwise there is no room for this card between the 1070 and 1080 pricing.

If the 1070ti is £450 or more, there is no reason not to buy a 1080 and if the 1070ti is nearer £400, there is no reason to buy the 1070 at its current price. Something has got to give and I think that has to be the 1070 dropping to near £300.

Yer, I would imagine so. NVidia would then pretty much have every angle at top/mid covered.

No, that is just Loadsa doing his thing. 2050 will likely not even beat a 1070, let alone a 1080. Would love to see it, but it is highly unlikely.

I would like to see the 2070 get close to 1080Ti performance however. That would be my next GPU right there. I am starting to think such performance would be enough for me, as most games that I look forward to playing that will need the grunt seem to be getting pushed back to 2019/20. By then I can just get a 3070 :)

I'm waiting until 26th to buy my 1070/1070ti see what happens
