Russell Brand.

I saw him in a Tesco near Reading yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him asking him for photos or anything especially given the current media attention. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”. I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off.

When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, sorry but you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

That's actually funnier than any of his comedy.

Didn't they used to call these types, eccentrics?

Is this some bizzaro post to attempt to make a point that anyone can make up a story about somebody else?

Cliché moment inc.

When we were 16 we were going to nightclubs for 21 plus....
Some Women/girls at 16 are also obviously passable for 21+
Unless someone tells you oh btw I'm 16, physically I don't think it's that easy.

Very cliché moment over.
Not really the same when the 16 year old in question is the daughter of a famous figure and is plastered all over the papers at the time as "Pixie Geldof, 16..."

Even with that evidence it would still boil down to his word vs hers, he says it was all consensual and she said he raped her.
A coercive control offence prosecution seems the appropriate way to address the power imbalance and abuse of near minors, but maybe the abuse predates those laws.

Interesting post.

As it's become less 'acceptable'* for men to be attracted to younger girls the sexualisation of children has become more widespread through media, social media, education in some US states and Canada (drag in schools), porn being easily accessible etc. We're ****ing everything up somehow.

*I'd argue it's never been acceptable, just not challenged.

I like the idea in bold.
Not only was it acceptable in years past it was the norm. Societal norms can and do change, and the idea of protecting teenagers from older men is not something that's always existed. Kids were getting married at 12 not too long ago. Not saying it's right, but it's how it was back then.

I hope you went to a grape crisis centre afterwards?

It's very easy to see how women were burned at the stake at the accusation of being a witch, although the law has moved on, society is clearly exactly the same.

Never been a fan Brand find him highly annoying and I suspect there's an element of truth in the accusations but the severity is questionable, as a self confessed sex addict I suspect he did a few bad things.

I suspect he is the sort of person to make lewd comments or do inappropriate things but do they warrant a criminal record probably not.

Would also be interested to know what people think about the "groupies" of yesteryear (esp in the 70s). We know it happened. We know there was a power imbalance, but we also know these teens were throwing themselves at their idols. And that it was common. Very common.

Clearly it's taboo now, but it's really not so long ago that it absolutely wasn't.

I'm not sure how many of those teens went on to allege sexual assualt against the bands involved.

Interesting that the ones who are banging on about the age difference in this incident were remarkably none fussed about schofield and his twink, I wonder why.

No one is saying he should be prosecuted for dating a 16 year old. Also there is a HUGE difference between asking a 17 year old online for sexy pics and actually having sex with a 16 year old. And if the accusations are to be believed asking her to act like a child. Schofield is clearly a creep, so is this guy.
