Russian airliner missing over Egypt

Putin is not going to want to be upstaged by the French reaction to Paris after this conclusion. Those poor people, the cowards that did this deserve everything they have coming to them. I just hope Putin shows restraint while hitting them hard and minimising civilian casualties.

Didn't happen when he gassed the capital city of another country.....

It all seems a bit convenient to me that it's being reported it was brought down by a bomb. In a very short space of time Putin has went from being hated by just about everyone in the west to, well still being hated but also giving the perception that he's now leading the war against ISIS.

Was it not suspected that it was a bomb even prior to the events in Paris? And as it has been several weeks since the plane was brought down its possible that the Russian authorities have compelling evidence that it was indeed a bomb onboard.

I think it was always odds on it was a bomb and I was surprised people were going out of their way to explain why it might not have been a bomb....when the media generally love to whip this sort of thing up.

Then I heard it was mainly because Putin had said to the Russian population that the military action in Syria was going to make it safer for them, so having 200 people killed by a terrorist bomb flies in the face of that, and Putin doesn't like to be shown as wrong.

Putin is not going to stand there looking weak and ineffective after this, we just have to hope for meaningful action with minimum collateral damage, anything else just plays to ISIS's ends.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good tagline ;)

It is a capital city, weirdly. It's just a capital city of a Russian state rather than another country.

again you must be too young to know history - as said , after the first Chechen war in 1996 the country was a de facto independent country.

but lets not let history or facts get in the way huh.

A de facto independent country. So, they sought autonomy and independence and even declared it. They were not granted it and the subsequent referendum only hardened that. It didn't change the fact.
