Ryzen 3900X thread

I'm a gamer too. I don't do a manual forced all core overclock, but in gaming I see between 4.35 to 4.4Ghz whilst gaming on all cores. If I do an all core stress test or cinebench run then I only see all core of only 4.2Ghz. Have you tested it stock whilst gaming and looked at say graphs in Afterburner to see what it was doing? Also there aren't many games that'll use all the cores, especially on a 3900X or are you playing something specific that does? You'll get more FPS increase by tuning the RAM than you will from an extra 100Mhz on cores. It's not just the temps of the CPU (nice big rad by the way) but the VRM's on the mobo also have an input. What frequency is that Ballistix Sport RAM at?

Thanks. Do you have PBO enabled? I was only seeing 4.1 all core in Cinebench at stock. Think l'll give that another go and do some more monitoring. RAM is at 3400 c16. Tried the calculator safe preset for 3600 but system would not post. Maybe need to get more adventurous with DRAM voltage?

We are now below MSRP at £479.99
We had 1k units drop from AMD this week, official stock so much cheaper than grey meaning we can go below MSRP finally. :)

dont do this to us Gibbo £40 drop 10 days after buying :(

Cant help AMD shipments their planned drop for January came and the 300 promised turned into 1000 all official stock bring out cost down massively compared to grey stock and the pound today is strongest it’s being for a long time. Prices go up prices go down the gamble we take.

Drop a post in CS I am sure they refund like £20 or the full difference but I know that this new price is essentially below what we owned the more expensive stock at.

I cinebench run isn't reflective of gaming. Use afterburner and see what the graphs for the CPU show for the cores whilst gaming. I don't use PBO. I just use RYzen Master and select Auto Overclock and push up the core by max 200Mhz and set everything else to max too as it's down to the mobo as to what it delivers. Pretty sure RAM is safe to 1.45V and you'll want SoC at 1.1V too. You could try 3200 @ CL14 as it's nearly as quick as 3600 CL16.

More ramblings in the video below. Didn't notice the histogram logging in Ryzen Master previously. Good news CPU is boosting higher than I first thought, bad news is performance in VR at the low end is slightly worse than my old i7 [email protected]/1600Mhz DDR3 16GB quad channel. Which I can't explain as I'm sure when I monitored previously with Precision X it was indicating a CPU bottle neck where it couldn't maintain 45FPS and run using Oculus' very clever ASW 2.0 as the GPU usage wasn't showing as maxed out, which it does now with the 3900X. Frame rate was still dropping down to 30FPS in the worst spots on track for the first couple of laps but would then pick up as the cars spread out. This doesn't happen with the 3900X.

Could the Nvidia drivers (which is a thought as I'm now running newer drivers) have more overhead with AMD CPU's? Would be nice if I had a more powerful GPU spare to test this out and see if framerate did go up. As you can see from task manager though it also looks as though the first core is getting maxed out pretty much constantly. What to believe :D:p

Thanks, might give that a go tomorrow :)

just jumped on the bandwagon, given the prices - sold my 9900k etc gone all amd. The spectre stuff annoyed me, the heat and instability at times of a basic overclock. Intel and amd have switched places. picked it up for £500 including mobo used. the 5700xt was a no brainer

I brought mine on the 28th, at £518. Are you saying we can get refunded a little? Whats CS - customer service?

Welcome and even though I should benefit from you forsaking Intel I'm sure you'll be better off. Any queries on the 3900X and you can even send me an email. ;) What speed is your memory?

What kind of memory are you choosing for the 3900x?

I'm not planning on overclocking but don't want to cripple the system with slow memory.
