Ryzen 3900X thread

Is the fan controller a hardware solution or software?

I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but already I'm missing the pretty lights. I also am starting to prefer the less huge looking, more reasonably sized coolers.

Having said that, there is this on the horizon: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/gigabyte-aorus-atc800-cpu-cooler-2x-120mm-hs-009-gi.html
It's a hardware fan controller that I've had for a while. I just set the Wraith Prism to the fastest possible speed whilst still being quiet.

Also used Liquid metal on the CPU lid and heatsink to take a few C off temps vs a normal paste. Every little helps and all that.

I think I have a pants chip looking at some of the R20 results in here. Im running totally stock bios settings except I have my ram @ 3600 cl14 at 1.39v

I struggle to beat 7k on my X570 Taichi with RAM at 3733mhz. Tried closing iCue. No difference.

All core load sees clocks drop below 4ghz some of the time, much lower than my 3700X.TDC limit seems to be the issues, can't go above 100% without a manual OC. Package power doesn't go over 115W in Cinebench.

Dialling in a manual overclock is much better and lets you go over the TDC limit. Running 4.35 on CCD0 and 4.2 on CCD1 gets me to almost 7.5K.

What results are you getting?

7257 on multicore
521 on single

Quite low from the results I've seen on here. I don't know if people are killing off all apps, but this is just boot into windows, discord, steam, R* launcher etc etc etc all running and go. I don't have any RGB software installed, well, I have my Logitech keyboard software on and for my Arctis headset, but that's literally it. I try and keep this PC clutter free.

I think I'm seeing 4.0 to 4.1 all core

I'm not sure if I can overclock CCD's individually in my BIOS, but I'm on a ***** previous gen of your board :P
I guess I shouldn't let it bother me, the performance I cant say is lacking in anything I throw at it, if anything my GPU is really holding this CPU back.

Well, due to the size of the DH-15, I had to move my graphics card down to the lower slot, so I can see why that runs hotter than before.

However, with the case side panel on, it would now seem that the CPU is running warmer. I saw it reach the low 70s during a map on counterstrike.

I'll test it on a single-player game that's more GPU intensive.

Nice. :)

I did consider looking into liquid metal but went with some Kryonaut in the end. What sort of idle/load temps do you get?
It really depends on what is running on the system at the time.

Idle temps with nothing running are in the mid 30s range, using the CPU CCD1 and 2 sensors in HWINFO64. Under gaming load that will rise to 60-70s. Under heavy load with all cores that will go up to 80-90s.

I think they are decent scores? Mine is generally between 6900 and 7200. Something not quite right with my settings maybe.

Maybe they are decent after all, if everyone else is scoring high with Ryzen Master OC I'm not sure I'd count that lol.

Is CCD overclocking giving any real world performance gains in games/applications?

Cheers. That sounds like what I saw when I used the stock cooler.

yeah that is decent, i only get 7100 with everything shut down, my ram is quite slow tho

CB20 doesn't seem affected by RAM/IF on my setup.

I currently have 3x R9 3900X, all BF 1944SUT (UF).

At stock depending on room ambient ~7200-7350 they score on multi and all hit 531 on single. Only 2 react to using just Precision Boost Overdrive [Enabled], again depending on room ambient I can gain ~7490 multi.

Only one of the R9 3900X hits FCLK 1900MHz, maxes out at ~1904MHz, my launch purchase R5 3600 can do ~1911MHz. The other two R9 3900X are shy of FCLK 1900MHz by ~4/8MHz, one of those two has slightly pants IMC as it needed more tweaks to hit MEMCLK 3733MHz.

The R9 3900X that doesn't respond to PBOE has the most decent CCD0, but CCD1 let's it down.

Source data for table below.

Code:
      R9_1 R9_2 R9_3

CCD0

C01 4551 4546 4545
C02 4515 4517 4524
C03 4555 4484 4452
C04 4543 4542 4547
C05 4515 4479 4517
C06 4549 4463 4470

CCD1

C07 4369 4421 4407
C08 4313 4373 4406
C09 4307 4365 4370
C10 4323 4346 4389
C11 4346 4395 4354
C12 4371 4341 4348

I'm replacing my X99 + i7 6950X setup with AM4 after Christmas, but I can't figure out if I should go with yet another 3900X or a 3950X. I already have the Asus Prime X570 Pro motherboard, 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4 3600MHz CL16, Crucial P1 NVMe, Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240mm AIO, Evga Supernova G2 1600watt and a Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Special Edition, and my 2x RTX 2080Ti will be carried over.

I am pretty sure I won't get all cores used on the 3950X, but the lower voltage and temperatures vs the 3900X are tempting. I mainly use the pc for gaming, photoshop and converting VHS and cassette tapes to digital copies.

I dunno why mines low, anyway, passing it onto my nephew, hopuefully the 3950 will run well :p

Perhaps cooling solution. I've seen one owner on OCN with ~6900 score, is using water cooling and IIRC user reckons block is not optimal, dunno room ambient, case airflow, etc.

Another thing is I've seen some ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Formula owners with lower scores on OCN, ~7100. Two people have stated to me some boards are running these CPUs out of spec, same sources stated Formula is one such board that doesn't. Dunno what's up TBH.
