Similar position as you. My system now is all rigged up and CBA unplugging things just to flash the BIOS. Next week before putting the CPU in i'll flash it before
Not sure why you'd need to unplug things though? My Tomahawk is all in the case, all power cables connected already, so all I'd need to do is plug a pendrive into one of the rear usb ports and press a button, that's all. Or do you mean you'd need to unplug things from your existing system?

For me, im reusing case etc.

Ive never tried plugging a mobo into a psu thats just on a bench. For the 10 mins it will save me, ill just wait until i rebuild

Finally, we got there in the end.

Your board would not have shipped with a BETA bios. My guess is that it comes with 7C35vA5 (dated 2020-08-10)

Indeed, won't have shipped with a beta bios, but there was a final bios available end of August with AGESA 1.0.8.1. That will POST/boot a 5000 chip. Boards bought in Oct have a good chance of coming with the 1.0.8.1 version.

Wonder if they're limiting IP's to the site at launch. Saw Gibbo mentioned 10,000 people viewing the 3070 page just now, so you can imagine how many people tried in total - I'd imagine if you skipped on known ranges outside of the UK, you'd end up with a much better experience.

Yep, the latter :) - Unplugging power from current board and take cables out the back of case.

What i'm going to do instead is leave the cables where they are, have a quick cleanup and slot the new board in, flash BIOS then connect the CPU, HSF, Fans (only have 2x CPU and rear fan) RAM, GPU & OS SSD. Front panel im only using power switch and single USB. I'll probably remove the USB cable to front panel port as never use it anyway

I'm starting everything new (mainly so I can sell the old system as a whole for ease) so was easy enough to just connect the PSU to the motherboard for flashing. First time I'd ever done that!

Opinions please guys:
My RTX 3080 has arrived today and I'm yet to finish my build with CPU and mobo.
Do I go 3800XT now or do I wait a week and get the 5600X.

For gaming only: 5950 worth the price over 5900?

In fact, the 5800X might even be better for you for gaming since there is just one ccx with all the cache on that, so no thread hopping over the infinity fabric. I imagine when independent benchmarks come out that games that require strong single core performance will fare better on the 5800x. Another benefit of this CPU is it will be similar to the ones on consoles, so future PC games will optimise to 8 core 16 threads rather than 12 or 16 cores.

does anyone know why if in this forum the price of the 5950X was announced at £750 (look look the original post by @Gibbo) and it was like that for several week, now 1 week before launch it shows up at £800, stock issues, OCUK being greedy? , what is happening? this will take me imediately to alternative websites on launch day even though I prefer OCUK I just can't justify +£50 that is a AAA game only for a good service.

A butterfly flapped it's wings in a secluded part of the Serengeti, which led to a 0.5 knot increase in wind speed in the South China Sea, which inadvertently knocked a seagull off the roof of the container that is currently making it's way to us, loaded with these CPUs. The subsequent burial at sea has led to a small levy on the cost of the CPUs. It didn't help that the exchange rate flickered just as the levy was being decreed.

OcUK have terrible luck when it comes to product launches. :(
