Is that actually confirmed that it is 8c CCX with two in a CCD?

Not confirmed. Its Bergamo, 8X 16 core CCD's, 128 cores. the 128 core Bergamo is confirmed but the layout is not, if its 8 core CCD's it would need 16 of them, Genoa which has 12 CCD's is already huge.

Good point i missed that, its still under 20 watts idle for the package.
Yeah, but right now,, as im writing this post while watching a video on a different browser my cpu is between 4.8 and 6 watts. That's for the entire SOC.

Of course that doesn't really matter for people that mainly work at multithreaded stuff and all that, which is understandable, but my line of work is filled with excels and browsers and stuff which don't really consume much power, at least not on intel platforms

You're right about the negative view, when I see people posting that "they heard" and "they saw" X, Y and Z issue and it turns out they're looking at some absolute BS youtube channel or garbage article and it goes on for pages I don't see the fun in linking stuff that you know isn't any quality.

Some people absolutely take it seriously because they see it and don't know any better.
Who are the “some people” on this forum that take him remotely serious? Name them.

Do you complain like this because there are things on the tv that you don’t approve of?

Don’t engage, don’t watch, move on.

You do realise that people watch that channel, and he’s got actual subscribers. Nothing you do is going to change that.

At the risk of sounding like i'm making more excuses, your CPU doesn't have a fabric link, the SOC is the lager square chip on the package.

The monolithic ones, like the ones they put in laptops have a much lower idle package power.

The reported hardware monitoring could be whatever. You have to measure from the socket.
And once VRM conversion, PSU inefficiency at low loads, GPU and storage idle draw etc all get added up, the difference in idle use of CPU only becomes much less tragic.

I think its probably right due to the fabric link, system RAM never clocks down and its linked to that.

At windows performance plan sure, it idles at 20+. If you set it to balanced it idles to less than 3w, and power saving i've seen it at 1.7w. The numbers appy to both 12900 and 13900, although the latter was idlying a tad bit higher
That's important to me and I see it as a problem for zen 4 cpus, especially 2 ccd ones
Yeah I am not all that bothered by idle because my PC doesn't idle. It is either on and being used or switched off. At moment is it sat there idling.

My CPU idle power is less than half of 1 watt. but then again i have a Gigabyte Motherboard, not some Asus junk :p

My CPU idles at 13w and the SOC is at 17w also. And also on Gigabyte. No idea what the difference is. I have never got it to idle less unless I make a profile with say 4 cores, it then drops to about 10w CPU and 13w SOC by turning off one CCD and going down to 4core. But yeah I do think Ryzen generally idles high if you look at the stock settings.

Tbf all the reviews for such applications like MS word, Excel still seem to show 20-30w power usage. That wy I was wondering how you was getting it down so low. I have never seen it that in any system I have used out of the dozens of 12900k setups we have at work or from any review.

You have the same board but a smaller form factor, if i remember right?

I have the power saving stuff on in the BIOS and i'm running Windows in Balanced mode.

Notice also all but one of my cores are sleeping, parked, with the one awake running at 267Mhz.

Pretty much. The windows balanced mode changes nothing on my system at all. I don't actually know what it is in BIOS anymore. Whatever stock config is. I mean as mentioned not end world. Never have it at idle but its idle and using say word, excel is all same power draw for my system.

Edit: retried and no difference, my CPU now with spotify on, excel and outlook open and on here an I am at 1 core and 280Mhz but still pulling 13w on the CPU.

Switching between, power saving, balanced and high performance litereally didn't change the load or draw at idle or as per the above running.

I would have written it off as someone not knowing any better posting garbage.

But you posted it sounding as if you knew it was garbage.

If you know it's garbage and like posting it anyway I'll keep it in mind.

I remember you now. You were the one complaining about 1080p CPU benchmarks, basically saying “who plays at 1080p”

Now this makes sense. It’s people like you that spread rubbish on forums because you just don’t get it do you?

A complete liar.

You will be incapable of quoting me saying that anywhere.

“You said what matters is how it performs at the settings people use. 1080p or even 720p at low settings, is that what people are buying £700 cpus for?

The tests force a cpu difference that doesn't matter. That is the farce. At least productivity tests can claim a grasp on reality for the end user.”

Then when people starting mentioning your stupidity you didn’t like it!
