Will you be purchasing the 7800X3D on the 6th?

A few benchmarks on Windows 10, comparing the 7950X3D Vs my tuned 7950X, both with SMT off. My 7950X3D was dialled in for the best performance I could get out of it, which currently means disabling the second CCD which allows more power budget for CCD0. Disabling CCD1 on the 7950X didn't bring any major benefits in the games I tested, and there was plenty of power headroom so it was left enabled. So far the 7950X3D tune is a work in progress as I've only been able to play with it for a few hours today. Nonetheless so far I have the following in SOTTR (1080P lowest no RT) and FC6 (720P low + RT + HQ Textures)

7950X SOTTR 402 CPU Avg FPS

7950X3D 462 CPU Avg FPS

X3D 15% faster

FC6 7950X 240 FPS

X3D is 18% faster.

Tomorrow I am going to reinstall my OS (Windows 10 and 11) as I'm currently using the build that was for my 7950X and I'd like to make sure I'm not leaving any performance on the table.
Are you pleased with it or going from 7950X or is it too early to make a solid conclusion?

Faster is always better so I’m happy, but I’ve not really had time to do much yet. I suspect performance could improve with software and BIOS updates.
That's cool. I'm pleased for you bud.

Also, just out of interest, as far as energy efficiency goes, how much power are you using now compared to the old processor and how much of a saving is it approximately?

We need to see Windows 11 and 4K.
I’ll have to see what results I have on my YT channel for comparison. There won’t be as much of a difference at 4K though as the 7950X is fast enough that it won’t bottleneck a 7900 XTX or a 4090.

Hard to say at the moment as I’ve only done benching runs but it’s definitely using less power under load than my 7950X. I’ll have a better idea how much once I’ve sent hours gaming and studying my overlays.

Depends on the game Matt, I have to set screen resolution to 6k to get my 4090 to run at 100% in Warzone with the 7950x. At 4k the 4090 is stuck around 65% load and 140fps, I'm sure the 7950x3d can do a bit better at 4k in this game?

I’ll try our Warzone and let you know. XTX is faster anyway in that game, but the Nvidia driver overhead plays a part too I bet.

Yeah the XTX has zero issues running maxed out, it's just the 4090 that gets bottlenecked so I'm keen to see how much the 7950x3d helps, I didn't see any reviewers test out this game

Have a look at this Grim, my 7950X running Warzone 2, 4K competitive settings, XTX completely GPU bound.
Unfortunately I never did test my 4090 at the same settings with the 7950X.

you need 6000 CL30, how you get there is another matter
I’ve managed to get CL30 after all. I’d like to see this tested to see the real difference on the 7950x 3d though. I’m just not willing to buy another kit to find out.

I saw one review show the 7950x3d still benefits a little bit from better ram but no doubt tit will be less than a 7959x does
Just I couldn’t get a CL30 kit without rgb from the place I got my 7950x 3d but they had CL36 and what with people saying it didn’t matter as much in these CPU’s I thought it would have been fine. I even thought about 64gb but that was even worse, and I don’t need more to be honest.

I’ve just got my system finally setup and I’ve been running some initial Port Royal benchmarks to test the OC on the 7900XTX. On some of the early benchmarks I can see the CPU clock results were reaching 6310MHz. I had since fiddled with the game bar setting after updating it and those runs dropped down to 5548MHz. This seems really high for a stock 7950X3D to be running 6310MHz on the non 3D cached CCD and 5548MHz on the 3D cached one.
