That's surprising. I have no stutters and I'm running it on a 5800X + 4090 FE and I only have 16Gb of DDR4 (which gets fully utilised for TLOU). I know at 4K it will not make much of a difference, but I'm assuming that when I get the 7800X3D + 16Gb of DDR5, the game will run at least as good as on my current system. I guess I'll see in a couple of weeks.

Maybe you have somethig in the background that's causing the stutters?
That’s the thing everyone tells me it runs fine for them but no one want to show me their frametime graph from that spot.

Oh well, I get pretty much the same as you.

I had only played up until that point just to test the game and everything seemed pretty smooth apart from the occasional frame drop.
I checked that section now, and my frametime is all over the place like yours...so well, I guess I spoke too soon

So, you get the same with the 7800X3D and 32Gb of DDR5?

I am very sceptical of AsRock, I only get them if I doing a budget/cheap build. But they have been ok.

If I am going expensive then it would have to be MSI or Gigabyte.
Skeptical but they have been OK?
Maybe your skepticism shouldn't be broadcast... or rephrased as something akin to "I have had no problems with them".
MSI shouldn't be preached right now IMO that's for sure.
The taichi ticks a lot of boxes in both its forms.

Yeah pretty much the same maybe slightly more, now I would like to see frametime graph from that spot from someone on intel 13th gen.
Thanks for confirming.

A quick straw poll - the Peerless Assassin or similar should be plenty cooling for a 7800X3D in a case with good airflow, right? That is, there's nothing really to be gained from using an AIO instead?

I ran through Cinebench on it earlier and didn't see it go above 78C, Peerless Assassin is about the best aircooler right now (based on Nexus), so yep absolutely :) I went for the non-SE as I wanted the top plates for a nicer design.

Gaming on Tarkov/BF2042 and I haven't seen it over mid 60's.

And comparatively to my 9900k@5Ghz, I'm about 100W down in BF2042, so that's a decent power saving.. I game a fair bit. No PBO optimizations or anything done yet so it could drop further.

You can briefly see the graph for a 13900K here:

Graph is bit on the smaller side and he goes through that part quickly, but it doesn't seem as bad as on a 5800x (and it's hard to notice stutter in a youtube video).
He gets roughly 10fps more than me in that area though (I've just tested with a similar core clock over 3000MHz), which I suppose is a combination of using a better CPU and 32Gb of DDR5.

I already know when I get the 7800X3D I'll spend a couple of weeks testing and not enjoyng any games

13900k does seem to

Yup 13900k does seem to do better here....

Yes, the X67E Tuf Gaming uses a Realtek ethernet controller. I'm now debating whether I get that or stick with my 5900X and cancel my order. The more I read about AM5 and the plethora of bugs, the less appealing it sounds. All yours for £1.1k....
i'm leaning towards tuf gaming at this time. i dont think i need to spend more on a motherboard

The main game (TLOU) stutters almost as much as on my 5800X, the board takes forever to boot up (although I didn't
Just out of interest, what version of Windows are you running?

It might not be related, but if it's Win11, there are some reports out there that April updates for Windows 11 have brought some performance issues to certain games.

If Royal mail deliver my thermal paste today, I can get round to doing the 7800X3D install.

I might partition my drive and make it a dual boot os drive to help run benchmarks and get some test results. Or just have one HDD as win 10 and one for win 11. Haven't decided. Not sure if windows likes partitions for different os installs.

Quick question, I've got a X670E board. Will I need to flash it before it will boot?

No, all current ryzen 7000 CPUs will boot. However, it is highly recommended to use the latest bios if you are going to use a x3d CPU because part of the software that controls those CPUs is in the newer bios - but the system will still boot even on an old bios just the performance can be low
