Question while I’m waiting on my 7950X3D - given a clean OS reinstall, has Windows 11 got to the point where it’s preferable to Windows 10? Main use case is gaming, Twitch/YouTube (yeah, another never-has-been, I know…) and associated productivity.

The CPU page for the 3D chips has been updated saying you get a free gift so I assume we will get something soon

I tested pre order button and can see 2 items went to the basket (the cpu and game) so I don’t know if they can back date the promotion if you already bought it. It would be good if they could retrospectively apply the offer though.

Not sure if its preferable or not, but most of the early issues should have been ironed out. Though until 2025 Windows 10 will be fine probably just as good.

Personally I installed 11 with my new system anyway to see what's new. Not had any issues with it other than getting used to some new layouts.

According to Matt windows 11 is slightly faster.
I would agree it is slightly faster but be prepared to have to relearn some basic functions and or take the time to change setting to make them more familiar to you. I felt it was too much like a tablet OS to begin with but after a few tweaks it was less painful to use.

I don't feel its that big of a change, maybe an extra 5-10%.

Good catch! How do we get the reward? Do we have to get in touch with CS?
I didn't order here, but I managed to get my code after chatting to customer service - even when their website still doesn't mention the X3D's in the promo.
You will need to redeem on the AMD Rewards website and download a tool to confirm that you have the processor installed. I heard it'll give you a Steam code.

Yeah, I would agree. I didn’t think moving from windows 10 to 11 was worth my time because I didn’t have to do it. If I had to do a fresh install I would probably go with 11 because I now know what to do.

I'll try this today - thanks!

Not having much luck with my 7800x3d.

X670E hero on latest bios, now refuses to boot on anything other than 4800Mhz (Corsair C36 6000). All EXPO settings cause ‘od’ fault code.

This is especially annoying as I know the board and ram are fine as my 7600x worked perfectly with them on all EXPO settings.

Faulty CPU perhaps?

I have the same motherboard and moved to a 7800x3D yesterday from a Ryzen 7600. My ram is Kingston C36 6000 memory. I haven’t had the issues you described. Is your system otherwise stable, and have you tried any troubleshooting already?

I’ve got a set of Kingston Fury C36 6000
so I’m going to try those see if it makes any difference. System is stable at 4800. But with the 7600x it was stable at 7000. With the 7800x3d it won’t even boot now on anything other than 4800.

Will also try again with the 7600x see if it makes any difference.

That sounds like a good plan. I was going to suggest checking the pins on the motherboard and reseating the CPU, but it sounds like you are already onto it. Let us know how it goes.

Seems to be working fine with the Kingston, bizarre. The timings are just slightly looser on this set compared to the Corsair but still both C36 6000. Lost a few hundred points in 3D mark as a result.

AM5 seems so fussy and a real pain in the neck sometimes to be honest. Can’t say I’ve particularly enjoyed the experience so far. Lots of oddities.

Wasn't AM4 like this in the early days too?

Unfortunately yeah. It just shouldn’t be this weird IMO.

One set of ram working on the exact same system only thing that’s changed was the CPU. I know the memory controller is on the CPU, I’m just surprised at the variance. It’s only 6000 C36, would have thought this would have been more stable with recent BIOS updates.

I’m fortunate I had another set of memory to test with, for a lot of people this kind of troubleshooting, having to swap out parts etc isn’t possible or viable.
