Will you be purchasing the 7800X3D on the 6th?

Well this is disappointing.
I've just had notification that my order is shipping (from a competitor). The reason it's disappointing is that I think it'll contain the 7950X3D when I asked to swap it for the 7800X3D.
So my parts arrived today, with a 7950X3D.
I know I should return it for a 7800X3D as I won't really benefit from the 7950X3D and it's over £250 cheaper.
But I've been waiting a while as it is and if I send it back I'll be waiting again...

Other than impatience there's no good reason to keep a 7950X3D over returning it for a 7800X3D is there, if gaming is largely all I plan to use it for?

For anyone wondering on ram stability/compatibility I've paired my 7800X3D with Kingston Fury EXPO 32GB (2x16GB) 6000mhz KF560C36BBEAK2-32. Appears stable and no issues so far after 10+ hours (2-3 hours gaming).

You could convince yourself that the +200MHz maximum frequency on the 7950X3D's cached chiplet makes a difference in games that you'd notice :)

Real men use a 7950X3D, so with that in mind should you really be using one? That’s the question only you can answer GM.

Will basically be the same, think 7800X3D is marginally faster on average.

If I had the chip I wouldn't be able to handle the wait of a new chip coming. But probably the wrong way to be!

BTW for those having RAM trouble using EXPO to post I found the following guide worked for me (basically manually inputting the EXPO settings in 3 steps)
For my Asus Strix B650E itx board, I couldn't load DOCP/EXPO for my Corsair 6400mhz RAM at all, it just insta-crashed/rebooted and sometimes Blue screened. I updated BIOS to the latest beta on the ASUS website, and then had to manually enable Memory Context restore which was in TWO separate areas in the ASUS bios (first is in AI Tweak header, the second is Advanced/AMD CBS/DDR Options/DDR Memory Features)

Since doing this I've got mine running at advertised speeds in EXPO 1, but admittedly, it's only been 1 day so far with some light gaming

If you were trying to run 6400 I'm not at all surprised it didn't work. The EXPO profile should be 6000Mhz at most. 6400 requires some effort to get stable and you need a sample that will accept that speed as not all will.

Sorry I might have put down the wrong info - I just set the DOCP/Expo setting on my BIOS rated for the RAM I bought, which is 6400mhz (assume that's DOCP then?)

Yes the DOCP may well have been 6400Mhz but that's not meant for AM5.

OK then, I just ordered the Corsair 6400mhz RAM as my ASUS motherboard supposedly supports 6400mhz - although looking at the QVL list, mine isn't on there
Did you order it from OcuK?

This kit should work fine and be plug and play when you apply the EXPO profile.

Just checking my system. I’m not getting the performance I expected.

I downloaded the amd chipset software from amd.com and it installed the 3D v-cache optimiser. Why? I have a 7800x3d.

In addition this all seems a bit messy. I have loads of amd drivers but they weren’t supplied by these chipset drivers like the wifi, Bluetooth drivers.

The intel drivers weren’t available at intel either. The driver utility from intel didn’t list the network adapter.

Windows complained and installed the amd graphics stuff as is not disabled the onboard graphics.

Seems messy.

Any thoughts?

No - and now looking at it further, the kit I got is optimised for intel  - rookie error that I didn't notice that (although it was hidden in the info and not in the header)
It doesn't mean it won't work, it should still work. However you may have to adjust the frequency, timings and perhaps voltage yourself. The kit I suggested will be plug and play once you apply the EXPO profile.

Thanks @LtMatt - I'll see if it stays stable, otherwise I'll look into the RAM you've linked - thanks for your help

I have a gen4 (os) and a gen 3 m2 drive with the x670e-a. Should I put the gen 4 in the cpu slots which support pci-e 5 or the x670 slots which only supports pci-e 4.

I thought it was perhaps better to use the cpu ones but im not sure if this makes sense form a performance perspective.
