RYZEN DDR4 MEMORY, WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!

problem is that as they speed up the frequency they slow down timing speed so overall gains are not that great

Thats not how the timings work, the timings essentially have a fixed value in the time domain. When considering number of cycles, as you increase the ram frequency the number of cycles for the timings will increase. As the timings in the time domain are a fixed value, but are based on a number of cycles in the frequency domain.

16gb is the smart choice for high memory speed at the mo with Samsung IC. I mean for most tasks 16gb is EASY enough.

Hmm, 32gb just isn't going to cut it for my usage - this morning I ran out of memory again (16gb) with a fairly simple Photoshop, After Effects and Premiere composition.

Fingers crossed things improve by the time I'm read to buy in June.

With GSkill RGB dimms this should definitely be possible. If you are happy with 3200 CL14, may as well buy the actual 3200 sticks. Only buy higher if you intend to up the frequency at a later date, as i do. I'll be looking to run either 3400 or 3600 when time allows.

I'll probably stick with the CL14 3200 then, it's already pushing the limits of what i want to spend on memory.... after all i can get non RGB for half the price lol

May try and tighten it to CL13 but at the end of the day i'm upgrading from DDR2 so it's gonna be insane the speed.

which G skill would you go for?
G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB Kit DDR4 3866MHz RAM 16GB (8GBx2) CL18-19-19-39
or
G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB (2x 8GB) 3600MHz DDR4 16GB (8GBx2) CL16-16-16-36

they are both the same price but from different places.

Personally i'm sacrificing a few Mhz i'm going for this one

G.SKILL F4-3200C14D-16GTZR Trident Z RGB Series 16 GB (8 GB x 2) DDR4 3200 CL14-14-14-34

I ordered the G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB Kit DDR4 3866MHz RAM 16GB (8GBx2) CL18-19-19-39, at the same price you're getting higher binned ICs and you can always downclock it for faster timings. I haven't been able to use mine yet as I'm still waiting for my pre-ordered Taichi motherboard.

I have a ryzen 1700 and crosshair vi arriving on Saturday.
I have already got 2x8gb of corsair vengeance 3000mhz ram then a friend sent me the link saying there isn't a memory divider for 3000.

I can get the sticks I have switched to corsair 3200, is that the best thing to do or is there a particular ram that works best for around 120 quid?

any ram recommendations for the asus crosshair, i fancy getting 16gb 3200mhz but dont know what

I posted just above you, I did a bit more digging and ended up doing a return for the 3000mhz ram as ryzen doesn't have a 3000mhz memory divider (whatever that means lol) and ordered the Corsair vengeance 3200mhz which is on the Asus QVL.

From what I gather it is a bit tricky to get up to the higher speeds but they will be adding support in over the next while so it works straight away.

I'm not too sure about it all but I just went with what I had picked originally but at the correct speed. here is a link to the QVL:

How do i find out what memory ic's my RAM has? My kit is:CMK64GX4M4B3000C15
For corsair you have version on the sticker. Depending on what it is you can find out what chips you have.

AIDA64 shows also manufacturer, in my case it shows for instance Samsung, version on the sticker I found out is E-die.

Also few forums posted anything with version 4.xx is Samsung (xx would decide what die, 31 is B, 24 is E)

nice one thanks

There's really good YouTube video digital foundry have done about faster memory. Well worth a look. If it was me I would buy the faster memory to future proof my system.

Just had a thought, I have a freesync monitor so don't need more than 75fps so is it worth getting ram faster than 2400mhz

The memory will not likely hinder the framerates at all (graphics card is mainly in charge with them) but I would be inclined to go for the faster supported memory to get the best performance out of your processor. 3200mhz is on the QVL and AMD are saying the support will be coming for even faster memory so I'd like to think that 3200mhz is a nice place to sit

So I got my corsair vi today and put it all together. The memory defaulted to the lower setting around 2100mhz. I stuck the latest bios 1001 on and chanced putting the correct ram setting in bios (ram speed, timings and 1.35v as listed by manufacuter) and it worked fine. 3200mhz corsair vengeance ram that's on the qvl. Not looking at overclocking as the system runs really quick as is.

Final build

Crosshair hero
Ryzen 1700
Gtx1070
16gb ddr4 3200mhz
Rift :)

There are a few issues with the motherboard still but the memory seems to have been stabilised a bit. When I installed the Asus software the fan xpert programme wouldn't run the fans lower than max speed. Just unistalked it and set it up through the bios so it runs pretty silent with the stock wraith cooler.
