S2000 owners thread. 9,000rpm of goodness in here.

Makes sense ta!

Gave the car a good wash today after the shocking weather we have been having.

Found one or 2 chips on the lip of the front arch that have rusted. I'm thinking it's just that, a stone chip that has then gone bad rather than the dreaded arch corrosion starting to show.. I hope that's all it is.

Is there a recommended touch up kit just so it's not bare metal open to the elements?

No idea. If you buy one that’s good, let us know.
I wish I could drive mine at the moment. MS flare up has got my eyes so am seeing double. S2000 will have to be dormant for a few weeks while I heal.

dab a bit of rust converter too.. not kurust but bilt hamber or jenolite and then touch up(ebay is full of them)

Thanks for the tips guys, will get on that!

In other news I may have found a Miltek system. Been wanting one since getting the car but now I'm wondering if it's really worth it! Fair chunk of change for such a thing, but also feel the car needs something in the exhaust sound department. On the fence :D but very tempted

Do it.

Popped to my grans cottage and thought it looked a nice place for a shot in the sun today

Not fitted an exhaust myself before. Straightforward? Could potentially get the car up on my dad's car storage ramp thing again. Or ask the guys that serviced it the other day if they could pop it on for a bit of cash on the side.

I don't have any intention of getting manifolds or decats etc so I hope the system itself is enough to make a nice difference on it's own

It should be pretty easy. You will need the car up a fair way to do it because the exhaust bolts up the cat pretty close to the middle of the car. The only issue you're likely to face is siezed bolts between the cat and the stock pipe.
Let us know how you get on and post some video up once you have it on the car. I'm quite tempted myself but am happy with the UK mod for now.

yeah this, cat bolts may be problematic, if miltek didn't come with new ones I'd get some now. Same with gaskets.

rest is sorta easy just exhaust hangers are a faf, can get a tool online for a few quid to help with that and a bit of wd40 helps them slide off easier.

I've swapped my exhaust like 6 times over the years..

I think the S2000 is one of those cars that gets under your skin. I've only had the same feeling with one other vehicle and that was my Yamaha RD350LC. Sadly, I'll never get to own one of those again as they are so rare now that any unmolested examples are worth more than I'd be willing to pay.

100% gets under your skin.. it's a very unique car too, there's a handful of cars I can think of that I could replace it with it - cayman gt4, gt3s, e9x m3, exige sorta deal. BMW being the odd-one out as it's heavier and I usually like my cars to be light on their feet. But cayman/exige are up there just too expensive.

As you guys knows my S2000 was great and I had it on Ohlins.
The car which killed the S2000 for my was my Porsche Boxster Spyder (987) which just outclassed the S2000 in every way apart from manual roof and soundtrack not quite as good as VTEC on CAM with air box mod, but handling and performance the Boxster Spyder was great, but more than twice the money, a regular 987.2 Boxster offers 90% of the Spyder with a sensible roof so from performance/handling perspective the Boxster 987.2 generation is a better car, but they are ten for a penny and in my opinion in Boxster form don't look as good as the S2000, the Spyder variant does look as good if not better but as I said a lot more money. The other epic Porsche is the 987.2 Cayman's, all superb steers, Cayman R been the peak.

S2000 is exclusive and a daily driven example should cost less to run than any Porsche Boxster.

Having owned an Exige, it is by far way more an event to drive, but you've got to be pretty hard core to be willing to drive one daily, its more a weekend car the Exige and as intended more towards track work where they truly excel.

GT4 is fabulous but the long gearing can get tiring, E90/E92 great cars but a totally different proposition due to size/weight still great though.

For me as a daily driver with little to no depreciation a Cayman R be hard to better, the initial outlay is more but cost of ownership should be no more, possibly less if it appreciated in value.

Daily driving mine and garaging every night, works well. Felt sad inside today though looking at it sat out in the heavy rain we had this afternoon.

I did look at Porches when getting mine but the S2000 was a car I always admired, even since driving it in Games on the PS2 growing up :D kind of one I've wanted to own for a while but never felt like the right time. But now, we have a pants family car and I'm usually only ever by myself in My car. So a 2 seater fit the bill. The MK2 MX5 was more of a test to see if I could live with a 2 seater, with a family and all and it worked fine! So it was time

When winter hits I aim to garage it and use our spare work van until the spring!

As a daily it's good, I don't have to go far to commute mind.

Our trading estate had so many bumps and pot holes.. that aspect is a bit irritating, really feel those bad boys :D .

I'm hopeful that the Miltek fills the lack of sporty sound, and that's as far as I'll go with any sort of modifications

Unrelated, but does anyone else find going from first in to second can sometimes fell a bit more notchy than other gears? Better once warmed up for sure. I don't think it's an issue, but something I noticed here and there

1st to 2nd is always notch until the transmission fluid is warmed up. My last S2000 was exactly the same as my current one. Changing the transmission fluid with fresh MT3 helps but it never fully cures it.
I just take my time with the 1st to 2nd shift when the car is cold, or double de-clutch if I'm feeling energetic that day.

Thanks, yeah my googling seems to suggest it's pretty normal too.

Does a shifter rebuild help with it at all? I see you can refurbish it fairly easily with a few OEM parts etc
