Klopp has proven what he is capable of with a modest budget so I have no idea why you think they would sack him without giving him a few transfer windows to bring in players that he wants. Liverpools squad is seriously lacking quality so there is no way you can expect him to turn them into world beaters in 6 months.

Onto LvG again - time is of the essence.

He's done enough wrong over the past 12 or so months to warrant a sacking, a few highlights:

  • Flat out refusal to drop Rooney, no matter how badly he plays
  • Poor use of good players in the squad (Herrera being a prime example)
  • Tactically woeful, bog standard 4-2-3-1 defensive possession game that never changes except when we have to hoof it long to Fellaini - which happens quite regularly
  • Mostly failed to identify and sign players to fix weaknesses in the team over several transfer windows - and seems a complete headless chicken in the transfer market (may not be entirely his fault, but even so)
  • Absolutely none of the above will change, such is LvG

I think LvG has had more than enough goodwill from the fans, he's serving up dross every week and is failing to motivate the players, and completely failing to learn from mistakes.

Now we're at a crossroads. Ancelotti, who would have been a good fit, has gone to Bayern. We should throw all our money at Pep and see if he'll agree to join at the end of the season, but we need a decision now.

If Pep is going to Man City (as many suspect), then we should move for Mourinho immediately. I think, with full control and a board that don't interfere, he could fare better than in previous jobs, and even if not, he'll assemble a formidable side. If Mourinho goes elsewhere, that leaves us with no obvious world class managerial option.

I know Mourinho isn't perfect, he regularly sets up a team to defend and counter attack which can be boring, but it often works. He's also a bit of a tool, but again, might as well wind up the haters, nothing to lose there.

Fortunately, despite how bad we are, the league and quality of teams in it hasn't run away from us. With a good manager, and good transfers, our resources should ensure a fairly swift return to the top, but not with LvG.

Pep will go to Man City i'd of thought, he gets on very well with that Txiki Begiristain who is at City and was at Barca with Pep..

So here we go, first fairly respectable journalist to run an article with LvG out - Mourinho in:

Jose Mourinho ready for Manchester United job and former Chelsea boss would jump at the chance to replace Louis van Gaal

  • Louis van Gaal is on the brink of being sacked by Manchester United
  • The Old Trafford club have won three of their last 13 in all competitions
  • Jose Mourinho, sacked by Chelsea last week, is ready to take the job
  • Mourinho told friends there are some jobs impossible to turn down
  • United have previously baulked at a move for outspoken Mourinho

Jose Mourinho is ready and willing to walk into Louis van Gaal's shoes at Manchester United.

Van Gaal is on the brink at Old Trafford after Saturday's dismal home defeat to Norwich City in the Barclays Premier League took his team's recent run to three wins out of 13 in all competitions.

Despite a private vote of confidence from the United hierarchy just a fortnight ago, the manner of the weekend's defeat has changed the mood at boardroom level at Old Trafford.

Has to be done, surely.

After a few days of mourning Duncan Castles has brushed away the tears and been doing Mourinho's dirty work - he put the story out yesterday that he'd take the Utd job if offered it.

Duncan Castles

A few of the Man Utd journalists are running similar stories, all along the lines of - LvG on the brink, Mourinho ready and waiting - boardroom discussions taking place.

I guess we'll see what happens. At least we have a solid option.

The biggest gripe I have with LVG is that whilst winning is winning I'd be gutted if I actually paid to go and watch it at OT. Not convinced that I want the hassle of mourinho.

Wasn't bobby Charlton against José last time? Would the board members want him after all the recent troubles José had with players at Chelsea etc?

No idea if true but the media were saying the other day that his influence at old trafford has 'waned'.

I think one of the biggest things they need to do is either appoint Giggs then watch as he fails or get rid of him as every managers number 2 who comes in. Thats got to put some of the top coaches off. Would Mourinho let Giggs stay in his position if he took over? I doubt it.

I'm still astounded that LvG has kept his job at this point unless the manager we want and think we can get is not available until the end of the year and we haven't got a good stop gap prepared.

Agreed on both points. I know they are grooming Giggs for a future management role at United, but I can't see how he's anywhere near ready yet and I don't think shadowing managers at United is going to give him enough experience to handle the job. He needs to actually go out and manage a team like Neville is doing.

Regarding LvG, I can only imagine the club are concerned that sacking him now could potentially destabilise the players and make things even worse, or that they have some sort of agreement in place with someone for the summer and therefore can't appoint a replacement now.

I would worry about destabilising the players if there was anything to ruin. We are playing rubbish football and I genuinely think that Giggs would do a better job than LvG simply by picking our best players and letting them play. LvG is picking strange teams, making bad subs and stifling any creativity we may possess.

Giggs is nowhere near ready to take over United and I doubt he ever will be if all he has to learn from is a series of **** managers. Top managers wouldn't want him there and he really needs to learn at a smaller club where he can work without super high expectations and learn how to manage a team, players and everything surrounding that. He needs to learn how to recover after losses, change tactics against different teams etc.

Such insight. Obviously with hindsight it's not true.

Yes it is. They have a limited squad with a couple of really good players. Mahrez looks brilliant and Vardy is on form and the team plays perfectly to his strengths. If Ranieri is as **** as you are suggesting then he wouldn't be making the squad work as well as it is and he wouldn't be getting the best out of Vardy and the rest of the squad. Its not as if come the end of the season most of their squad will be poached by the big clubs.

He has done an amazing job and if you genuinely don't agree with that you are just being blind and ridiculous.
