Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

Yes, I checked it the other day by typing a code I saw on xdadev into the key pad and it gave me various phone stats one of which was its unlocked status, the only actual sims I've tried are the o2 and GG though, however lots of folk gave thanks for the code on xda, no doubt newbs like myself.

I also got a phone secrets app which claimed the Note was unlocked.

Hmm - gifgaff and o2 use the same network - so may not be unlocked. Not to worry I'll check when I get mine.

Kona if you're thinking of getting a Note check this thread and Grudas's post and link, imagining a 24 mnth contract you can get unltd data 300 min 5000 txts and the Note costs the equivalent of £240 because of cashback on £41 a mnth contracts.

I'm getting the phone for £300 from a family member's upgrade - it will pay for itself when my Mrs get her upgrade and sells it. cheers though.

Am thinking of purchasing a note in the near future.

Looking at the sums and some other forums there seems to be some debate on what is more cost effective, buying outright or getting a contract.

For instance it looks like you can get a note from from the rainforest for around 400 pounds then factor in £10 a month for a giff gaff..this seems lime a no brainer deal or am I missing something obvious?

You can pick up a Note for free on a 24 month contract for £21.50 / month which is £516 over the 24 months, compared to £640 for a £400 Note + £10 / month over 24 months.

Pay more, but no contract and unlocked and unbranded phone, or pay less and you might still get an unlocked unbranded phone (offer I saw was via buymobilephones.net who I believe send out unbranded phones) but you don't have to pay upfront.

Spent sometime with the note this morning testing the flow of the system and HD content. wow beautiful screen and it’s not too big. Happy to see zero lag, and really, it’s just a bigger version of the SGsII in terms of menu movement and apps, very smooth.

Fell in love with the screen after about 3 minutes of viewing HD content.

I do think that after some use you'll be spoilt and never want a smaller phone/device.

Ive been looking at the Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0, then noticed that the Samsung Note 5.3 seems to be the new (and more functional) version of the Wifi. Looking at this make me think there will be no new version of the Wifi 5.0, the note is the new evolved version.

Im not likely to use it as a phone. I have a cheap phone that does everything i need i.e. make phone calls costing me no more than £5 every 4 months.

If i had a little money to play with would i be stupid to pay twice as much for one of these and never use it as a phone. It will be used for net use, films, games and as my mp3 player (a very portable netbook). And probably a lot of other things i dont even know yet since ive never owned a smart phone.

Im worried if i get the Wifi a lot of apps will not work since the OS is not up to date.

Can anyone help me make a choice based on experience with these things?

I was willing to go up to the size of the wifi and the note is only slightly bigger and has better hardware.
The note can be had for £390 on Amazon. The Wifi is £220

I just got a Note today - the0p2 - yes it was unlocked from o2 :)

bushmins - the Note compared to the 5.0 Wifi is a MASSIVE difference - think fiesta vs ferrari.

Everything form the speed to the camera to the screen is 100X better. the 5.0 wifi should be worth no more than £80 compared to the Note, that's how much better equipped the Note is. Side by side you will be blown away by the screen and speed.

Thanks for the info on this.
Why is it so much cheaper on Amazon than everywhere else. Its a lot cheaper over £150 in some cases. Some mobile networks want over £1000 on a 24 month contract!
I could probably (maybe...) get a certain high street company to price match, which means i could have one very soon :)

EDIT : Scrub that price match thing.
