Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

Rocket ROM ICS released.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654838

Rocket ROM was the best GB ROM I tried, I'm running it now in fact. I've been reluctant to update to ICS because I don't want to lose some of the GB mods I have installed, the Jkay mod especially.

Eybee, the Rocket ROM dev, was churning out updates at a rate of knots over the winter, incorporating all the worthwhile mods and themes as soon as they were available. So I think now this is out I'll probably go ahead and update.

EDIT\ having just said all that the theme he's used for v1 is bloody awful

Random thought!
Would getting a secound battery, be a good idea as a backup?
They can be got from the famous river, very cheaply.
- I have found my note, churning through a battery in 24 hours, even tweeked setting to reduce its power reqirements!

Also is the Note got issues with certain headphones?
I use Ultimate Ears 600vi Headphones an the volume control buttons
(On earphone) dont respond to volume control input!
But I can use them too skip a song!?

If picking up a cheap spare battery, I highly recommend Anker. I had a spare Anker battery for my S2, it cost about 1/3 of the price of an official samsung battery and it was just as good if not slightly better. They are available for the Note, I think I might order one too actually.

updated mine to the official ICS from germany last night (no root). As someone has already mentioned, I am pretty underwhelmed. I can't see me making much use of the premium suite (I also had to search out my story separately as it wasn't in the update but now I have it, I can't see much use for it). Can't comment on batter life yet. Doesn't feel much quicker to me and dpi/text size now seems a little small in the browser. Annoyingly can't seem to use desktop folders due to touch wiz (unless I am missing something). The updated gmail is an improvement. Not used the new camera functions yet. Face unlocking seems to work well but again, do you really want to be looking into the camera first every time you pick it up? The pen seems to register a bit better though I think. It seemed a little off to me before

Finally got round to getting rooted, followed the same vid as Kona a few posts back, though I feel like a big boy now I'm still gona wait for ICS off samsung.

If you are rooted, you can install mobile odin and then install the official ICS yourself, its so quick and easy even I managed it... :o

e36Adz - are you using a DPI changer app? If so how are you finding it?

Soz dude it was 2stepsteve, though I think you may have used the same vid

Cursed4ever is the guy I followed.

Ahh...yes I remember that video. Same method I used to root my S2, not tried on the Note yet. Very easy in the end . Cheers.

I did use it for awhile but went back to default because if I remember correctly my MHL cable wasn't working, I couldn't output to my telly anymore which I assumed was due to me changing the DPI.

Does anyone have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for their Note? My mate has a set and they work great but the problem is, they come with a usb dongle which needs to be plugged into the phone first, which means you can't use the MHL cable right? I need a bluetooth keyboard and mouse which connect without a dongle, anyone have any recommendations?

*** Gingerbread only ***

Stock dpi is 320.

The downsides are:

- TouchWiz apps including launcher, dialer, etc are not totally compatible with other DPIs. They still work but the layout will be incorrect. I didn't really find this an issue since i use market apps (e.g. GoLauncher) for most of those things. All the google apps, gmail, play, etc are fine.
- Some apps on the market won't be available depending on the DPI you have chosen. 240dpi is a good alternative since pretty much everything is compatible at this. If there is an app you want that should be available you can always set the DPI back to default, download the app and then change back to your preferred DPI.

The upsides:

- Go to pretty much any menu and tell me it's not better being able to see soooo much more.
- Similarly things like tabs in the browser take up less space, the notification bar takes up less space, etc etc.

I really can't go back to 320 now!

Try the link in here for a DPI changer that's temporary (reboot to return to normal so it's pretty much risk free, no reason not to try!).

For a permanent DPI change (i.e. it stays after rebooting, you can always revert manually) try this:

EDIT1: screenies of the difference here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=20824799&postcount=675
EDIT2: I think there are modified samsung apps that look correct at 240DPI on XDA
