Samsung Galaxy Note: 5.3", 1200x800 SuperAMOLED, S-PEN stylus, 2500mAh attery... *phew*

Had my Galaxy Note for just over a week now and absolutely love it, it really is a true pocket entertainment system.

I've been using live radio and Tv a fair bit via Tune In Radio and Catch Up TV which are both great for my long/lonely nightshifts, internet browsing is also a pleasure on the Notes screen, but I didn't get on particularly well with the bundled browser so I experimented with a few and found Dolphin HD to suit me most.

Also installed ES File explorer (thanks for tip TheOP2 & GRRRRRRR) great for streaming from home lan, it's played every video format I've thrown at it so far so haven't really needed to experiment with different video players, I have installed BSPlayer though.

The One Plan Tethering has been proving useful too, the Note has HSPA+ capability so speeds are pretty good.

The unlimited tethering is perfect for my situation as there is no fixed line broadband out here in The Wilds so my 15GB mobile broadband contract was previously all I had, not easy keeping within 15 GB when you have lots of Steam games etc to download, so now finally managed to catchup with some of those.

Rooted the phone yesterday, didn't really have any specific reason for doing so but the super User access is quite extensive and should prove useful in the future. Still need to experiment with camera and video recorder, barely used them yet tbh.

I can't imagine going back to a smaller device now that I've used the Note for a while, it doesn't seem too large at all to me, it easily slips into a trouser or coat pocket, and making calls on it doesn't feel awkward at all, infact I'd like to see The Note 2 get a 5.8" screen. Yep, great bit of kit overall so far, and still much to explore.

10MB down, WTF

Yeah MBB has improved a lot in the last few years (if you're in a good signal area). When 4g gets introduced we could see speeds up to 100Mbps, as usual we're lagging behind other areas of Europe, Usa, Japan etc who already have 4g networks. It's a godsend for me as we've got no fixed line broadband here in the sticks, exchange is enabled but 10K+ line length means I can't get it, exchange will be getting FTTC next year, but whether they upgrade my local cab is another question, I have my doubts tbh so roll on 4g.

Anyway I'm waffling! So back to the Note, I've just connected my sixaxis PS3 controller and mapped it to GTA3!:D Not got mapping quite right yet but nearly there, anyone else tried it and got button mapping 100% right?

Did you need a custom ROM for this like on the S2 or does the standard bluetooth stack work ok with it? I bought the required app but it's sat doing nothing since getting the note.

Just using phone with standard installation (2.3.6) but rooted.

Downloaded and installed sixaxis from the market and downloaded and installed sixaxis pair tool for the PC, ran pair tool on PC and input Notes bluetooth address then disconnected from PC and ran sixaxis on the Note, it paired straight away with the sixaxis.

The game controls fine with the controller apart from a couple of buttons not working correctly, on foot controls working 100% but in vehicle not for some reason, will crack it eventually though.

This vid was helpful, there is also a link to a sixaxis button mapping profile which you can just download and copy into the sixaxis profiles folder.

Are you using it for tethering to your home pc ?. My contract runs out soon so I'm looking at Three but I have no idea what speed I'll get (I'm in Leicester), so its all about luck I guess.

Yeah I've been tethering quite a bit, I'm on 3's The one plan so have unlimited tethering, previously only had 15GB month limit via 3 MBB so it's nice not to have to worry about data usage and going over my limit anymore.

If you go onto the 3 site you'll find a coverage checker for MBB, which will give you an indication of indoor/outdoor signal strength you can expect, you won't really know what sort of speeds you'll get though until you try it, probably best to get a free sim from 3, chuck a few quid on it and test signal/speeds etc in a 3g/hspa/hspa+ capable handset.

I think I'll be moving over from O2 to giffgaff on PAYG since they do unlimited internet and texts, plus 250 mins for only £10 per month. Anyone on giffgaff had any issues? I don't intend to abuse the data, I'd probably use up to ~3GB max per month but it's just so much cheaper then O2.

I've changed to a white AT&T I717 Note now, basically I miss the NFC of my Nexus so this was the solution. Also I prefer the soft buttons and having a search button again.

The ROM scene also seems slightly better on the I717, I'm running a ROM with the SIII touchwiz.
